Free agent Romero files restraining orders

The bidding war for Pablo Romero, the greedy Mexican with a low work ethic, is getting outrageous. You know he wants to come to Hawai'i so he can suck sugar cane and learn scuba diving and go whale watching in the shadows of volcanoes. All other teams should stop chasing him. I met with Pablo (or Paco, as he likes to be called) and his extended family, nearly four dozen proud citizens of Mexico and Arizona, and they have all said they greatly prefer to live and work and breathe in O'ahu and not in such problematic places as Montreal, Baltimore, Long Beach,... ...

I believe Paco is about to file an official complaint to the league office, the FBI, the DEA, and the Migrant Farm Pitchers of America for a case of harassment against teams other than Hawai'i that keep contacting him. He has already filed for orders of restraint against three MBBA general managers.

It is definitely getting a it ridiculous for someone who has never actually pitched before.

I think Steve Nebraska never pitched before entering the league too.

Marquette enters the fray. Hawaii had already backed off.

Blazers are out as well. Too much for a MR for me.

I learned two things last year.

1. Prank Pizza deliveries to Al Hoot isn't going to work anymore..

2. Bullpen is pretty darn important. Not having one means not winning. you can have A1 starters 5-deep but without a 'pen you're up a creek.

Agreed on both! However, sometimes you need to set a price on a player, and when it goes above that you walk away. At least for me anyway. Although the price is certainly different for each team depending on cap room etc...

I'd like to take personal issue with the phrase "greedy Mexican with a low work ethic". I don't think, in this heightened era of sensitivity, that phrases like this should be used. Every Mexican I know is hard-working with a high moral standard raising families and contributing to our country. Since we are in the new "Sensitive Monty Brewster Era" I suggest that the phrase be stricken and rewritten, otherwise sanctions should be exacted.

Okay, I'm assuming you guys are joking, although I'm not sure.

Just the same, it is interesting that a phrase like "greedy Mexican with a low work ethic" has a negative connotation. Whole books have been written on the subject.

At the same time, a derogatory intention can be inferred by the simple fact that "Mexican" was included in the description, when it really isn't germane to the discussion of him as a free agent baseball player. Sometimes, if it walks like a duck...

It is interesting that the idea of a "lazy Mexican" is even in our culture. From my experience, their work ethic is off the charts. Maybe that isn't true in some parts of the country, but in the south, you want Mexicans on your crew. If you are bringing people out to fix your roof or do any kind of manual labor, you are overjoyed when a group of Mexicans shows up. They do great work and they do it quickly. They never leave a mess behind. They are always polite and treat your property as if it were their own.

Stereotypes make a fascinating study, I think because they say more about the person doing the stereotyping than the person being stereotyped.

Next topic. :)
