v24 > v25 Import Statement from OOTP

Post by RonCo » Thu Mar 14, 2024 6:54 pm

Whenever we decide to move to v25, please note that this transition will be a fairly substantial one. Here is a statement paper Matt Arnold released regarding what kinds of things to expect: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/sho ... p?t=352897

Jeez, that document is so full of caveats, it sounds like a lawyer wrote it.

Seems to me that it would be foolish for anyone to make any moves until we all see how much our players change this offseason.

Sounds like the trade deadline is officially dead. I mean, who would even want to take the risk of making a move when everything, and I mean everything, could change with this new version?

Yeah, definitely time to strap in. I should be downloading later this morning, for my other league. We're going to jump into it once our current season ends in the coming week. I'll share any general story lines that we see developing.

I remember back in the day OOTP, you'd load up the new version and have a completely different team. A 70 potential player may change to 45 out of nowhere. Hopefully this isn't as drastic.

Actually, I hope it is. My farm system sucks and has no place to go but up

I have a feeling that this version will require a longer wait to convert than past versions. With all of the new features being introduced, especially player development, somebody will quickly figure out how to break it and OP new features. There will likely be numerous updates early on.

I first thought that we should wait awhile, but I'm beginning to change my mind. The players will look very different, though they should not perform dramatically different. The main thing to me is that we will probably see ratings come more in line with "reality." In other words, the change will reduce our ratings bloat.

My guy, Run-ming Gui, is not a 70 or 75 kind of player as OOTP 24 calls him. He'll be a 55 or 60 or whatever in v25...and that is a much more appropriate rating base on the stats he will create.

This alone will be a large cultural change. And the earlier we get through that, the better.

The mega stuff ratings should go away, too. Pitch repertoires, too, will look different. Players should still rank similarly in value, and performance shouldn't be dramatically different, but that top end will not look so top end.

I'm all for jumping in, too. We gotta go through it together at some point. Might as well adjust sooner rather than later.

I'd imagine that those of us who are in other leagues could probably share if there are going to be any teething issues with these changes.

We should probably poll the league if we want to switch right away- the timing might be ok, actually.

Pitching ratings look significantly different. That's mainly because the scaling issues that popped up when Perfect Team was introduced are now fixed. So it's more of a true 1-10 ratings scale now.

Actually, all of them (batters included) are just much more appropriate and balanced.

5 is definitely league average. As an example here are the way some pitches will be converted when we import v24 < v25. This comes on the publicly released version right now, so it might still be tweaked. But the concept is the same.

Fastball Rating

A lot of those blazing blue bars will drop down. The pitchers should still be basically as effective as before, but "average" fastballs will be 5 rather than 8 or 9. (Not this is FB current rating, not potential).

Similar chart, right. But I found it interesting that some of the low end bumps up. Not sure what that says. Note this is Potential, not current ratings.

I post this to suggest we should get ready for a paradigm shift...and because it's this shift I want to get through as early as we can, even IMHO if that means we deal with buggy code in the process.
