We have all gone to @RonCo at various times for advice on this crazy game…but maybe we should be going to Chad in Nashville? What's the secret, Chad? You’ve had several guys bump from 20 and 30 potential to now 70-80 potential over the course of your time here, with at least 2-3 per year. Seems like you should be playing the lottery, instead of at the front office for Nashville.

Lindsay was my first big bumper. He was a reliever that learned a third pitch and that boosted his stuff and he became one of the league's best pitchers. Same happened to Fleming and Stevens. That's just pure luck and I've been blessed by these RP becoming studs. Eliot and Minhas bumps are more so relative to their position because there just isn't a lot of talent at SS. bin Nawaf, Cano, Kuo, and Usamah have been dumb luck scouting finds and Triska was just a MILC signing to fill a position. Kidd was a DH bat I traded for, but couldn't expect he would play this well. I loved Gonzales when I signed him, but he has had an unearthly talent surge in the past couple years. And I still cannot believe Tingle lasted that far in the draft - I thought he was an obvious candidate to become a star.

But as to how I can explain these bumps? Not sure. I try to seek high work ethic guys and pair them with good coaches in the minors. Not sure it matters all that much. Maybe it helps boost one or two of these guys, but at this level it's just been dumb luck.

I was looking at that earlier. Chad is amazing at getting super good coaches to join his minor league teams for very cheap prices. I think that helps perhaps more than I had originally thought. His coaching staff is really deep, pretty cheap, and really LEGENDARY/Outstanding. I've not been successful at enticing these guys to even listen to Rookie and Short A positions, better yet pay them the going rate of peanuts. :)

I draft High WE guys and hire minor league coaches based on how they get along with my star players. I've had maybe 2-3 guys that have bumped like that in my 23 seasons. Even guys after I've traded them.

You definitely need to hit Vegas more often!

Maybe BBA bumps is the way way the world keeps things balanced, because I certainly do not have this luck in Vegas.

I am fairly certain the game bumps players at a rate to keep things somewhat steady. Which I think is why we might be seeing a few more bumps these days as older players are fading off. The coach thing is interesting, though. I also think there's value in letting players perform at a level for a bit before promoting them. Probably has to do with reps and time with coaching rather than other things (like morale). But what do I know?

That said, I've had some success with promotion while jumping levels, too.

It's not like he's throwing a bunch of PPT into his coaching staff, either. But if you scan down the list of his hitting and pitching coaches all the way down the organization, they are startlingly good and mostly pretty cheap relative to their level counterparts.

I've been working hard the past couple weeks to target upgrades. Not sure if it's just Bikini or not, but most guys with these levels aren't interesting in talking to me about anything other than big league jobs. :)

I’ve never gotten (in recent seasons) a coach to sign for a job unless it is at least at the level the coached at before. So after the hit the BBA they never will sign for a minor league job.

That fits my general experience, but I'm not sure it's a "never."

It's interesting that you can find coaches that will "drop down a level" and go the GBC.

I spent a couple days doing a deep dive on coaches a while back when I posted the "average salary" Interesting Chart of the Day.

I feel that’s been the case for me now, too. I got some good cheap coaches awhile back and haven’t let them go. Just recently started dumping ppt into coaches.

I wish I could pinpoint a bit better what coaches do, but at the lower levels they make a huge difference. my players who buy in may not bump in ratings per se but they ARE performing well up and down the organization as I have worked to get coaches that show improvements.

And much as I hate agreeing with Chad, I do think player intangibles can help with performance too, again more than you might think.
