Shoeless Stepping Aside after Season
After thinking on this for several months, I've made the decision to step away from the Brewster after the 2052 season (if Recte will allow me to play it out). I'm no longer contributing or working to compete in a manner worthy of the league and don't see my participation changing anytime soon.
When I joined the league in the early summer of 2019, I would never have envisioned this online community of misfits would embrace me and become such an important facet of my life. I became good friends with so many throughout my three plus years and will miss all the long-running, ridiculous jokes and storylines we manifested from the stench-ridden bowels of our baseball-infused imaginations (you'll likely have to deal with my wonderful personality on Discord on occasion still). I don't think I'll really miss the competition whatsoever, which is odd as I can't fucking stand losing, but I know I'll miss the continued friendships I've made.
In the end, I made the decision to leave based on the mantra of the late Vic Caleca (still miss you, my wonderful friend ... a lot) who told me this online baseball league stuff is supposed to be fun. I'm just not having fun with it like I did in the past.
The Mad Popes will be in good shape at the end of the season for the next GM to step into -- a stable of young stars with years of service available; plenty of cap space available (and possibly more depending on player option decisions) to allow for the the next GM to make the team their own; and, a decent amount of viable prospects working their way up the minors.
Thank you to @recte44 (crazy what a place you've created here ... amazing, really) and all the members of the board for providing this special corner of the internet. And thank you to all you lovable morons who create and compete for the love of baseball, community, and stories.
Take care of yourselves.
May Camacho watch over your souls.

Re: Shoeless Stepping Aside after Season
This is unacceptable.
...but you've gotta do what you gotta do. Hopefully you'll check in on the inevitable Mad Popes 2053 championship parade.
We'll all be anxiously awaiting you crawling back because you miss us.

Obviously new here but sorry to see you go. But yeah sometimes you just need a break for whatever reason and it sounds like just as in real baseball, "retired" GMs and managers often come back.

Agreed. Tell the family they’re gonna have to wait. Or get them all GBC teams and tell them you’re taking them on a European vacation.
