We should void the contract and return hubbard to fa pool for next season. Has this been done ?

Phoenix signed a guy too but I don’t think it’s over the cap or a trick deal. Still can we just get a rule in place that no one can sign major league deals during the playoffs?CTBrewCrew wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 7:28 amWe should void the contract and return hubbard to fa pool for next season. i have no issues with signing guys at anytime, as long as its done above board. What is your concern about signing guys while playoffs are underway @bschr682 ?

They have a salary year listed that they won’t get paid for. I’m pretty sure that 20 mil year in Hubbard contract doesn’t get paid to him. Anyone signed after season but before next seasons finances start, is being given a fake year that can be gamed.

Yeah, but it gets pro-rated for budget reasons but it all counts for cap reasons. This one was forced through. Otherwise it would not have been able to be finalized. Its almost like signing a guy that is out for the season to a 2-year deal but front-loading the contract.
If a guy is a FA, then he is a FA.
Although, I have no issues if we turn off free agency at the start of the playoffs.

You're probably talking about my signing. I signed a popular 40-year-old pitcher to a one-year contract strictly to gain some cheap fan interest. Was it gaming the system? Yes, absolutely. But it's legal, and I have the cap room. If you want to stop that particular avenue of gaming the system, fine. But I don't see how it's any worse than a player option after a team option, or the many other legal ways a team can gain an edge in this game.bschr682 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 10:41 amPhoenix signed a guy too but I don’t think it’s over the cap or a trick deal. If I’m remembering right part of that pro rate calculation involves projected service time. A guy signed in the playoffs to a non playoff team has 0 service time so they believe it screws up the math and they get no money.GoldenOne wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 11:28 amYeah, but it gets pro-rated for budget reasons but it all counts for cap reasons. I'm definitely not an expert in the financial aspect of this game (or any other aspect really) but if that's the case, I have no issue with turning of FA once the playoffs start.
