A Footnote Regarding OOTP Preseason Predictions

Post by cheekimonk » Wed Nov 24, 2021 12:09 am

Preseason prediction are, of course, just fodder for discussing and arguing. ...however...

Long ago there was a player named Manuel Aguilar who became the first player in MBWBA (precursor to BBA) to deliver the Triple Crown. The next season, during Spring Training, Aguilar's name was not mentioned in any Top 10 Hitters list. That was weird I thought. Then, on the next to last day of Spring Training, Aguilar goes down with a career-ending injury. That's just too coincidental for me. I think it shows that the engine is running a high number of sims and posting predictions. This would make them more accurate than we assume.

Now we can all continue to ignore predictions...

You just struck fear in most of us.

Or maybe it's a small sample size.

Oh. Makes since why reigning Silk winner Tony Frost isn’t on the leaderboards and Nashville is only expected to be 82-80.

Considering my preseason lineup I’m thrilled the game thinks I’m a .500 team.

That's a very scary thought. I'm just glad I don't have any players good enough to be predicted to do so well that their absence from projections would be noted.

I thought pitching was one of my stronger points. The only one I have on the top pitching list has a 7.88 ERA in spring training thus far.
