Lane, we can maybe just agree to disagree.
You can pretend like it's not a big change.
I think it's a change for the worse.
That, said, I shall never mention or comment on it again.
I'm over it.
Peace.
Joe,

What about the change concerns you that you think its a change for the worse? Your 100% entitled to your opinion, and should feel comfortable expressing it here. If we know your thoughts behind why you feel that way perhaps we could help ease your concerns.

As mentioned earlier, people can still do it if they want to. The goal, i believe was to help make one of the legacy (more time consuming) parts of TN requirements easier on the GMs. In the end, the larger goal would be to get them to produce more content, history for their teams and the league.

As a league i think its good that from time to time we go back and review the charter and modify when the GB feels it would be in the best interest of the league. When the decision was made by the GB, it was not done w/out a lot of thought.

Being the newest member of the GB, I was able to read/participate in these discussions. Part of the conversation was that we felt that all of us within the league are familiar enough with Stats+ / HTML reports to locate said player / team if we wanted to.

For me, if someone writes a TN about Dennis French or Wullenweber I know who they are, they are ubiquitous so I wouldn’t include a link. But if it was somone new, their first mention etc, i would do a link. Thats just my thoughts, and i think that was the spirit of the rule.

Each GM has their own unique style of creating content for the league and their team, and where forcing everyone into one style (i.e. mandatory player link), could curb creativity.

As a wise GM once said remember above all “Have Fun” 😄

I said I wouldn't talk about it again. But I'll answer your question. It's a change for the worse because the links won't be there on those posts that the writer chooses not to use them. I like the links. I use the links. Now I won't be able to use them for those posts. Therefore, it will be worse (for me anyway). I recognize some people don't want to spend time including links. Now it's better for them. I recognize there are other ways to look up players, but way less conveniently than links imo. Please don't explain to me how easy it is. I understand.

You can't ease my concerns. :) I will live with the change.

Case definitely completely finally and permanently closed. Sorry I even brought it up.

I was thinking about this overnight. The Media Guides sure have been successful. No links there.

It's an adjustment, and by all means, if you can and want to still link, we encourage it. There are some folks who have trouble with it, and I certainly don't want to discourage any and all writing.

my main concern is it's not the linking preventing people from writing. So, if after this relaxation of the time immemorial rules doesn't work, what next? The TN requirement goes from 6 to 4 ? from 4 to 2? Where does the quantitative easing end?

Nige, like I said previously, this is a quality of life improvement, and there's no need for apocalyptic slippery slope fallacy arguments.

If you recall, we recently RAISED the writing requirements for the league.

This is a writing league, and will always be such.

I don’t remember you raising the requirements? Hasn’t it always been 6 TN’s? I remember you added a requirement that two should be done by the all star break, which was largely ignored

I'm not clear how you can make such a sweeping statement without knowing each of us personally.

Linking was absolutely a deterrent for me in the past season. I took a new job in August that has sapped my free time, and there were a fair number of times that I considered posting a TN but couldn't stomach the thought of going through the linking process. So I stopped pretty much after meeting the minimum.

I am thrilled about this change as lifting the requirement will increase my output.

It 100% absolutely helps someone like me, who really only has small windows to write Team News when at work where linking can prove difficult. I have something like 150 Team News that I've started and never finished.

Also for those who might be writing while on a phone or IPad- linking isn't the easiest thing to do there.

Nigel, just because we don't make a fucking league-wide announcement anytime someone misses a requirement, doesn't mean that we're not on top of things.

Not everyone here is an OAP like yourself. We have jobs and families and shit. We put a lot into this league. Comments like that aren't appreciated.

I personally think there are other factors at play as to writing being down as to just the links.

I feel reason one is people don’t feel the need to write because no one reads what they write and get no response. Taking away links will help those on a time crunch, but I think there are other factors at play. The addition of Slack and Discord has lessened the responses on the board and shifted conversations to there.

I think Discord has a lot to do with the lack of writing. The lack of responses sucks too.

I'm not sure if that's a comment towards my post or not, but I'm just offering my opinion on other factors at play. I'm assuming you're just being overly dramatic and sarcastic. As someone who has always written articles for whatever leagues, dating back to yahoogroups, I'll write regardless of the guidelines or requirements. I for one never had an issue with linking players but if its an issue for others and it'll spark more writing then great!

I just personally think there are other factors at play, and they arent necessarily negative ones to the point that the league needs to be shut down. Saying discord is a negative would be wrong. Does it take away from writing, reading, and commenting on here? I think it does. But it does generate more league conversation over there. Are there people who just spark a conversation over there as opposed to writing an article here because it'll generate more conversation? I think so.

FWIW, the league's decision sparked a TN out of me so it got more participation from me. As I was informed on Discord, I'm stuck with you fuckers... Unless someone takes a guy I missed via rule 5 tonight. In that case, I'm quitting! :D

Yeah, my comment was an ironic overreaction designed to parody the massive overreactions throughout this thread.
