Pitch counts in v22

Post by cheekimonk » Tue Sep 28, 2021 5:28 pm

I've skipped a couple of versions so I wanted to get opinions on pitch counts. They were frustrating as hell. You would take away pitch counts and see your starter go 140 pitches in one start. So you put in a pitch count and the game engine treats it like a holy commandment to where it seems the manager would yank a pitcher in the middle of facing a batter. Or could be turning in a solid performance and then it's cut off.

Just wanted opinions on whether this has improved. I've been back & forth, mentally, on the issue since I returned.

a quick check of some recent games shows me that no pitchers were removed mid plate appearance. the way i've understood it is that if a pitcher is being removed for pitch count reasons, they finish the PA then are pulled. i've never noticed otherwise.

It was quite awhile ago but I saw it a couple of times in v19 I think.

i figured this was the case as well, given i regularly see guys who end up at 3-5 pitches over the pitch count i set.

I'm glad they fixed it (I may not have seen it...it was quite a while back). Still can have a guy relatively cruising and he gets yanked.

Pitch counts may result in what seems like unseemly pitching changes.
Then again, unseemly pitching changes happen with or without pitch counts.
OOTP AI is basically brain dead.
Pitch counts at least help you protect your pitchers.
