Yancy Cravat Deserves a HOF Ballot Slot

400 BBA HRs. 8 Gold Gloves. Career +89ZR at 1B. If you fold in his UMEBA time - he gets to 522 HRs. Great story (was a lefty 3B - until i got smart and moved him to 1B).

Just think he needs a shot.

I can see him making the ballot but would be surprised to see him last more than 1-2 rounds.

And while I think he's a good player I wouldn't vote for him. An .867 OPS isn't even all that hot for a first baseman.

Nah. Was only a BBA All-Star once and his awards other than GG's are seriously lacking. Guys with counting stats not quite up to standard for 1B need to have other major awards. If he had a bunch of Puckett's or at least a Silk, he'd have a much better case.

So i dont disagee....but 2 things here.

1) UMEBA time really hurts him. He left the BBA at 31 years old with 400 HRs in ~8 seasons. Thats pretty damn impressive. Short career after that - retiring at 34. Just shows how dominant he was - but longevity clearly plays a role in the hall. When he went to the UMEBA my first thought was - there goes his HOF chances.

2) I'd think that level of power combined with the defense is something quite unique.

I'm not saying he gets in - but should make the ballot at least!

New Orleans will send its BBA lobbyists back to the Big Easy...

Yeah, like for me he'd have needed to finish off that career in the BBA, or have hit for a higher average for his career, especially as a lefty. Then I'd have voted for him. But he's a perfect borderline no for me.

For contrast, Jon Mick is still a yes, which causes me to re-emphasize my point, that counting stats do matter.
