Piccoli Tapped to Take GM Duties for River Monsters
Can Twin Cities win with Scott Piccoli at the helm?

Several respected baseball commentators urged team ownership to show patience with the new man.

"New general managers are always in a rough spot," wrote one. "The organization needs to take a thoughtful, weighted approach. It has some great talent, but it also has holes. Piccoli shouldn't reinvent the wheel or feel pressured to make any knee-jerk decisions this early on. He should take his time and base his assessment of the club on logic."

Sage advice, if Twin Cities will listen to it.

Edmonton Crowned Kings of the Johnson League Frontier Division
Edmonton Jackrabbits's manager Juan Carlos Gonzáles ran some numbers after all the games were played today, and came to a quick realization - it's done.

Edmonton has clinched the top spot in the division for the 5th time, and now has to be considered one of the favorites in the annual challenge for the Landis Memorial Series. A reporter from the Edmonton Observer caught up with some fans who were celebrating outside of John Ducey Park when they heard the news.

"I've always believed in this team. I've been a fan of the Edmonton Jackrabbits since the beginning," said season ticket holder John Masters. "I'm looking forward to celebrating our 3rd championship soon!"

Postseason Bid Ends for Madison
It's a close-but-no-cigar type of season for the Madison Wolves. The club today was officially eliminated from playoff contention.

This is the club's 8th playoff miss in a row. They last appeared in the postseason in 2037. In the last 10 seasons, the Wolves have missed the playoffs 9 times. In total, the Wolves have missed the playoffs 29 times in their 50-year history. Madison last won the Landis Memorial Series in 2009.

Frick League Heartland Division Won: Nine on Top
For a team that has never won a Landis Memorial Series, capturing the Frick League Heartland Division is a good start.

That's the situation the Yellow Springs Nine find themselves in as their division title today became official.

"We might not have a lot of championship experience as a franchise, but when push comes to shove, I believe in these guys," said reliever Derrick Chaney. "We want to be that team to bring the title home to Yellow Springs."

Team manager Sam Brewington said it won't be easy to capture the Landis Memorial Series, but noted that "nothing worth doing ever is."

Playoff Bound: Cyclones Win Wild Card
For a team that has never won a Landis Memorial Series, how you get to the postseason isn't the important part. The important part is simply that you get there and thus, the Omaha Cyclones excitedly celebrated their Frick League wild card berth tonight.

"There's only one thing that everyone on this team wants and that's to be champions. We want to bring a title home to Omaha and this is the first step," said starting pitcher Timo Dooley. "Of course we would have loved to win the division, but we look forward to the challenge ahead."

It will be the 1st Brewster Baseball Association championship in franchise history for the team if they can pull it off.

"That's the ultimate goal," added the starting pitcher.

Wild Card Clinched by Calgary
The Calgary Pioneers celebrated wildly tonight as the team officially captured a wild card position in the Johnson League.

"In some ways you're more excited than if you would have won the division, because you know you were closer to being left out of the playoffs," said third baseman Alfonso Trinidad. "It's not lost on our guys that once the playoffs start we're going to have to step things up and play our best."

The Pioneers have a 90-65 record and will be looking to turn their wild card berth into the franchise's 3rd Landis Memorial Series win.

Louisville Captures Wild Card
It's time to start thinking about the playoffs for the Louisville Sluggers.

The Frick League Heartland Division club today secured a wild card berth, which starting pitcher James Browning said is something the club is "extremely proud of," even though they had hoped to win the division.

With a record of 91-65, the Sluggers won't be going into the playoffs as favorites, but Browning said he believes the Sluggers have a good chance to bring home the franchise's 5th Landis Memorial Series.

Division Remains Up for Grabs, but Montreal in Postseason
The math is in the favor of the Montreal Blazers. The club can no longer be ousted from a playoff position, with a berth in the postseason now a guarantee.

Montreal boasts a 89-68 record and will be looking for the 2nd Landis Memorial Series in team history.

Pearls Ace Wins Triple Crown
Few men in baseball history have won the pitching triple crown. Susila Kartosuwiryo of the Manama Pearls joined this elite company today when the season ended, officially making him the league leader in ERA, K's and wins.

Kartosuwiryo put up a 21-5 record, an ERA of 3.12 and 241 strikeouts this season. He started 34 times, walked 81 and held opposing clubs to a .203 average.

Kartosuwiryo is the odds-on favorite to capture the Pitcher of the Year Award this year.
