Zúñiga Wallops #300
Swinging his way into the record books, José Zúñiga reached the 300 homer mark today at Fidelity Financial Park against the Atlantic City Gamblers. He went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs on the day, although Jacksonville would go down to defeat 11-4.
"It was a distraction," Zúñiga said of his 300th home run. "I'm happy it's over. I just wish I'd been able to make a difference in the outcome today."
In his career Zúñiga has accumulated a .292 batting average with 1148 hits. His totals include 232 doubles, 8 triples, 301 home runs, 857 strikeouts, 634 runs scored, 786 RBIs and a lifetime .357 OBP.

Talons Fire van Rijn as GM
Trevor van Rijn's tenure as general manager of the Phoenix Talons has come to an end, club officials announced today. The split with van Rijn, 56, was described by sources as amicable.
"van Rijn and the coaches just had different ideas about how to build the roster," a team insider said. "They have a good relationship, but nobody would buy into anyone else's vision."

Baghdad third baseman Joey Newhouse lashed out at media today, accusing the local press of unfairly criticizing his manager and teammates during the team's recent slump. "I'm sick and tired of hearing how we lack hustle and how Tomas (manager Tomas Toledo) isn't pushing us hard enough! We're busting our humps out there every game. It just hasn't been coming together for us lately. That's not Tomas's fault. We're the ones out there on the field. We've just got to work through this," Newhouse told reporters, adding "And we don't need your [expletive] remarks, either!" Teammate Elliot Woodger defended Newhouse afterwards. "Joey is just a really passionate guy," Elliot Woodger explained. "He doesn't always choose his words carefully, but there's no questioning his loyalty or his heart. He just really hates losing, so he's obviously frustrated now, as we all are."

A 4-2 sim. Picked up a game in the Division and still only 3 out of the final WC spot. Need to get a few extra wins here and there.
