Yong Tags Number 300
Cougars second baseman Tu-fu Yong reached a career milestone yesterday, blasting home run number 300.

He took the achievement in stride. "It's always good to get another home run and even better to get another win," Yong told reporters in the postgame interview.

He went 2-for-4 during the Charlotte 8-4 triumph over the Jacksonville Hurricanes and scored 2 runs with 2 runs batted in.

Looking at his career stats, Yong is batting .266 and has totaled 300 home runs.

Tropics Say Sayonara to Skipper Finley
All is not well in Hawaii.

Kelly Finley's tenure as the Tropics skipper might end up being remembered more for a memorable exit than for anything he accomplished on the baseball diamond.

Finley was fired as the manager of the Hawaii Tropics today and didn't take the news particularly well. Upon hearing of his termination, Finley immediately went to the owner's office, where he laid into the Tropics primary decision-maker with an expletive-filled tirade behind closed doors.

"He called me most every name in the book. It wasn't pretty," said Hawaii owner John Hough. "I'd say Kelly was simply reacting in the heat of the moment. Overall though, I would have preferred a classier exit."

After his verbal ambush of the team owner, Finley stormed out of the stadium and was not immediately available for comment.

Club officials have scheduled a meeting tomorrow to appoint an interim manager and begin the search for Finley's replacement.
