Re: Multiple Debate Items(Salary Cap, Media Revenue, Minimum Ticket Price, Stats, Salary Retention)
Neither Machiavelli nor Thealer (both with Charlotte now) -- hmmm <wink> had 45m attached to them, that's why nobody ever brings them up.
I'm not dissing the previous GM (never met him, sure I'd like to have a beer with him one day). He's gonna be a Dr. someday right? Who knows he might just save my life (unless I say right before they put me under... uhhhh your the guy that made the Mons Raider trade....
I'm sure he had a vision, but his vision and my vision are different on what we would have done in that situation is all. Differences are good.
Yes those prospects have added some value to the franchise (I was able to trade the one BBAer into 3 more prospects), trying to make more value for me. If you look at though, those 5 prospects are still costing Madison 3.5 mil per season (Mons is 15m per year + their regular salary). Pretty pricey for players not in the BBA, only 2 are in the BBA at the moment.

Actually, if you look at the value of draft picks, the idea that the players Madison got are worth $45m or more is not horrible. Our ability to value these things well is not very good.

I wrote a media guide article on the value of draft picks/ prospects a couple years back. Without referring to it, I'd place a guess at their value at $35-40m ... but I could be off. Regardless, the value of those players, placed in dollars, is higher than you would think.

This coming season, the loss of $15M of your cap may actually hurt your organization, because you're beginning to turn a corner. But until now, it's reasonable to think having those prospects in the organization was worth more than the cash/cap space.

Or at least close to worth it.
It's fun to bitch, though.

Last thought... if I were taking over Madison I wouldn't be mad at that deal. I would be more bothered by the fact that before he moved on, Chris moved to from a big stadium to one that holds only 35k seats. That move has cost the franchise a lot of money with very little benefit in return.
No one -ever- talks about that, though.

I made this up to illustrate Ron's post from another thread in more detail from 1995 - 2040 for each team the YoY impact of what / how Attendance, Ticket Prices, Gate Revenue and Fan Interest all interact w/one another. Blue indicates a positive change from the year before, burgundy negative change. This only compares the year prior in each category.

Chicago in 2040 was interesting...
Fan Interest up 41.2%
Gate Rev up 58.8%
Ticket price down 5.3%
Attendance up 43.6%
Sweet spot..... I will add +/- # of wins in a bit to this Viz..... curious how he did how that effects it.

There are several interesting teams to scan. Seattle over the past 15 or so years is one.

Out grocery shopping with the Mrs. I’ll add season Ws when I get back - maybe I’ll see if I can add new stadium indicator also. Want to dig more into also

Re: Multiple Debate Items(Salary Cap, Media Revenue, Minimum Ticket Price, Stats, Salary Retention)
Interesting - a quick look at Madison in 2029/2030/2031/2032/2033
2030
Fan Attend shot up 150% vs 2029 (Cheap tickets I'm in!!)
Ticket Prices were slashed 51% (Bye one get one free)
Gate Revenue was up 22% (Cha-Ching - cheap family entertainment)
Wins only up 4.5% (66 to 69)
Fan Interest up 1.8% (meh - Probably due more to lower ticket prices - team still stinks).
2031
Attendance up 1.8% vs 2030 (apparently fans interest didn't impact my attendance too much)
Ticket Prices increased 1.3%
Gate Rev up 9.4%
Wins went up 30% (69 to 90)
Fan Interested up 30% (Winning drove my interest up)
2032
Attendance up 1.7% vs 2031 (Still up but probably offset by bumping the ticket prices by 30% from last year)
Ticket Prices increased 30%
Gate Rev up 26%
Wins went up 8.8% (90 to 98)
Fan Interested up 15% (Winning puts buts in the seats!)
2033
Attendance down 9.5% vs 2032 (I'm winning & fan interest is up, perhaps its 3 straight years of ticket price increase?)
Ticket Prices increased 26%
Gate Rev up 16% (still making $, but offset less butts in seat vs higher ticket cost)
Wins went down 11% (98 to 87)
Fan Interested up 2% (playing contending baseball 3 years in a row)
hmmm... correlation or causation.... I could go down this rabbit hole all night...
