Over-All Rating Bump?

Post by Spiccoli » Fri Dec 27, 2019 9:59 am

Has anyone else noticed a significant Overall Ratings bump this off-season (both actual & potential in their players without any changes to their skill ratings? I have several players, prospects mostly, that have seen around 10 point jumps. I've browsed a couple of other teams and saw similar bumps... but haven't really dug into it.

My guess it's something to do with the relative ratings and maybe a talent shift? But there's seems to be ton's of 70-80 rated players on some teams.

I do like the relative ratings, especially when working in the lower minors by changing to AA or AAA. Helps when everyone isn't rated 20 in actual ratings... lol.

However, seeing unexplained jumps in over-all ratings can be a little screwy. I try not to focus on Over-all ratings TOO much... but it's hard not when scanning over all the players in the minors.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts what might caused this latest bump upwards. I know a lot of players saw significant jumps downward in over-all ratings when the Relative Ratings were first implemented, which seemed to indicate that the league was top heavy with talent at the time? lol... who knows.

My personal theory is the spring training bump is due to all the lower overall players being added to the spring training rosters which the system then calculates into the relative ratings for everyone. If a bunch of 45 overall guys get added, then just about everyone bumps up 5...

When all those guys get sent down prior to opening day, the ratings go back to normal...

Hmm... Maybe. Would that explain the prospects in the middle to lower minors getting bumps? I guess it would since they're being evaluated on the over-all talent on the active rosters. So that makes sense

I just don't remember seeing this before... not to this extent anyway.

It's this. It's happened every Spring Training since we've switched to relative ratings.

We get ratings hits at the end of the year, then bumps at the beginning of a season. It's annoying, but it is what it is.
