Hit Parade: Thum Gets Cycle
It is rare for players to collect a single, double, triple and home run in one game, so it's a special moment when it happens.
Dong-po Thum savored such a moment today, going 5-for-5 and hitting for the cycle against the Louisville Sluggers. Unfortunately for Thum, that was all he could savor, as his Yellow Springs Nine lost the contest by a score of 11-5.
After the game, the third baseman was in no mood to talk about the hitting feat, calling it "pointless trivia."
"Nobody cares if I went 0-for-5 or 1-for-5 or 5-for-5," Thum said. "11-5. That's the only line anyone around here cares about today."
Dong-po Thum singled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Víctor García in the 2nd, tripled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and doubled in the 8th.
Thum is batting .340 this season in 157 games with 13 home runs, 94 RBIs and 123 runs scored. He has 216 hits in 635 at-bats.

A 11-5 triumph at John Ducey Park has wrapped up the Cartwright Cup for the Las Vegas Hustlers.
"We're off to the Landis Memorial Series," said Hustlers left fielder Girolamo L'Archibudelli, who was named series MVP after his club eliminated the Edmonton Jackrabbits by a series score of 4-2. "You can never take a win in a series like this for granted," he said.
The Las Vegas Hustlers don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Yellow Springs Nine - Louisville Sluggers series. That series is tied at 3 games apiece. The Landis Memorial Series is scheduled to begin on October 31st, 2040.

In the crucial final game, they put away the Yellow Springs Nine 8-0 at Utopia Field to win the Cartwright Cup, 4-3 and advance to the Landis Memorial Series.
Although his team came up short, Yellow Springs's Luis Costello was named the series MVP, with many of the league media feeling the series would have been over much sooner if not for his contributions.

Hebrew Hammers Top Chariot Archers BC in United Cup
It was all about winning for the Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers -- and win they did.
There was nothing fancy in how they went about it, players said, they just prepared mentally and physically and then went out and played baseball.
"We did the little things right and we did the big things right," said second baseman Juan Carlos Ortíz, who was named series MVP. "Now we're the league champions."
Jerusalem defeated the Cairo Chariot Archers BC by a score of 8-7 at Seventh Wonder Ball Park to take the series 4-3.
"Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you make your own luck," said Jerusalem manager Denny Dooley. "We got lucky a few times, but mostly we did the right things by being prepared for each game and playing the game the way it's meant to be played."
