Drafted J.R. Spoonman one draft just because I wanted to make a Team News about his unique last name.
I've done this with later picks.
What position does he play?
How do you mean?
Yeah, they look ugly.aaronweiner wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 12:51 pmIt's just that I don't see five batters that are usable. At all.
I see at most two dozen pitchers who are.
It's not a matter of blues or yellows or greens - I know the center of these things has changed and I'm happy to change with it, but this cupboard is BARE.
This class is more akin to Monopoly than chess...first few times passing Go is great and all, but eventually everyone is fighting over Baltic Ave. Ultimately, in a pissed off rage, the guy with the wheelbarrow token flips the board in disgust and yells at Grandma for hoarding the railroads, causing everyone to quit the game.
Ok. That makes sense.bschr682 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 1:49 pmBy power creep I mean talent inflation gets higher and higher with each successive generation. Pretty soon you start seeing guys with 14 con and 15 power and goofy things like that. Hell we already have too many guys above 10.
Then your leaderboards become flooded with more and more recent players. And the guys before them become lost history essentially.
Exactly. This draft looks to me like the game is functioning correctly and not letting the draft spiral into an out of control freight train.RonCo wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 2:00 pmOk. We won't see that kind of "run to the top" on our ratings.
For the couple decades I've been in the OOTP environment, I've seen pretty much everyone talk like OOTP versions have specific slants. Of course, the "fun" thing is that different groups will sometimes say different things.shoeless.db wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 2:22 pmIt often seems like all our projections are completely wrong when we first look at things in OOTP and the BBA.
But is the right way to counter that by creating a draft where no position player can play, and there are three potentially viable starting pitchers? Shouldn't it be countering it with a whole bunch of 6 contact players and fourth starters?bschr682 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 1:49 pmBy power creep I mean talent inflation gets higher and higher with each successive generation. I think the degree to which the class lacks top end is more about what Ron was talking about with guys being eligible too soon.aaronweiner wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 2:50 pmBut is the right way to counter that by creating a draft where no position player can play, and there are three potentially viable starting pitchers?
