So, so glad that this is what the draft class looks like when I get to pick first....as an expansion team. Is it too late to take Nashville back before Recte messes things up even more? :D

We still have to have the college guys and the unsigned from last year's draft, but its still not looking like a time to stock the minors.

I love this time of the season. Even teams that you don't think has a good roster come out of nowhere and provide some excitement to watching them and everyone is in the hunt for the top spot. You just need to get on a good run. Even if you start off slow, it may feel like you're only a few corrections away to making something happen.

Just made those corrections... I'm already feeling more positive than I was last night.
After every sim I do these tiny tweaks. Hopefully they lead to more wins than I would have gotten otherwise, but even if it doesn't it should make me more competitive against my opponents. There's a podcast, OOTP strategy talk. I feel like so many people don't want to give away the secrets, but if they are game based I think of them more like an exploit than baseball strategy. I'd rather we all have a level playing field and the effectiveness of our team's and strategy allows us to win games. Luckily for me, I know nothing about OOTP and I rely on studying successful teams to try and explore different team archetypes.

Well... that draft class is certainly disappointing ... the high player is 65?

What a great year to have 3 comp picks... lol.

I love the idea of a OOTP strategy podcast. One of the problems, though, is that my guess is a whole bunch of stuff people do with the idea that they are 'gaming the game' aren't actually correct. I do think there are things various people can do to optimize the game putting their players in places where they are more productive--but even those aren't guaranteed. It would probably be easier if our opponents had to declare their pitchers early.

Anyway...probably a third of my features are attempts to help folks see how the game works--or at least how I THINK it works.

I'm always interested in more. :)

The thing I miss the absolute most about Ted's absence (which is probably the thing he hated most) was that he made all these statements about the game that were often phrased in the forms of questions--but sometimes not. But they all made me go "huh...I wonder if that's true?" and then set about finding out.

His stuff on FA opt-outs and signings was really illuminating--and I'm still using his methodology while trying to get sample size to see how "true" his findings were--as was the views he took on how overall ratings hurt/under-rated guys with splits. Neither of these were "gaming the game" so much as they were trying to help people see how the game was operating so we could make comparisons and calibrations to our views of real baseball.
