My budget is $150 million, so I can actually still turn a profit if things go right. If not I have bonus funds. It does mean I can't eat any bad contracts now, so that kills one trade I was talking about.udlb58 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 3:34 pmSometimes I forget how crappy our market really is. I don't think I could absorb $40 million in IFA costs, even in a Landis run (I think we had about a $25m profit this year)indiansfan wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2019 1:38 pmIFA costs ended up being $42.5 million. Looks like this will be a break even season, profit will depend on playoffs.

I can't remember the last time I even gave a thought to making a profit.

I don't mean that I always make a profit, though I suppose I almost always do these days. What I mean is all I look at is revenue generation and converting it to budget.

Well, until a very recent sim my budget was only about $120 million. My $20 million in cash keeps us able to spend to the cap, and the slush fund allows for any IFA overages or paying the cost of cutting bad contracts. But if I don't make the playoffs for a couple of years, that bonus fund will dry up quick.

My view is that non-playoff revenue drives budget. So if your non-playoff revenue is $120-$130M--which is where Jaxsonville has generally been, then your budget will generally be in that range. So you'll need cash to spend to cap if you also want to by IFA and spend seriously on draft picks.udlb58 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 9:59 pmWell, until a very recent sim my budget was only about $120 million. We make about $140-$145M per year prior to playoffs, so our budget is up in that range. That makes it easier for us to throw cash around.
No matter who you are, though, if you have a couple bad years, your revenue will drop and you're in trouble.
