Players don't weigh these kinds of bonuses much at all. To the point that they often don't even weigh easy to reach bonuses well, and make clearly dumb decisions by leaving them on the table.

It would be nice to see all the bonus clauses given, though. They are hard to track as far as I can tell.
I agree with that for when players are opting out, but you don't believe players are accepting offers based on the bonuses? I've always thought the total overall value of the contract was the driving factor in whether a player accepted a deal or not. Maybe it's not weighted as much as guaranteed money, but I've definitely submitted a better guaranteed money offer just to see a player go to another team with a better overall value offer. That is mostly far in the past though. I haven't done too much in FA since I've been back. Maybe the last couple versions of OOTP have been better with that?
There is a small weighting to bonuses (though big and essentially unachievable bonuses are generally ignored if you believe Markus and Matt Arnold) , but I don't think they weigh bonuses nearly as much as they should in rality. That's probably okay for game play, but it makes the players kind of stupid. The best players should be extracting far more money from the big budget teams than they do--mostly because they seem unaware that big pools of cash are sitting in that "unspendable" area--which then later goes to writing $30M checks during IFAs or whatever. If our world were real, every agent in the world would be asking for big pieces of that non-cap cash.

I usually add bonuses to contracts. Frankly it is more realistic. All star and award bonuses of a few hundred K. I will give IP bonuses or PA bonuses that are a bit higher particularly if a guy has an injury history. Again realistic. It can get a guy to take less salary, but by maybe a million on a $10+ mil contract. I think as long as the $ amount and the performance numbers are reasonable there is nothing wrong with it.

For instance 150 IP for a SP or 400 PA for a starting hitter are reasonable and a team should expect a player to hit those numbers unless injured. Now offering that same package to a reliever or backup would be wrong.
I think they're railing against large bonuses for easy to reach milestones. I understand that complaint, though I don't really agree with it (or better said, I like the idea of playing in a world where you have these different set of resources and can use them effectively). Any GM in their right mind in our "real world" would be held responsible using all their resources to win, and that "unspent" capital from which bonuses are paid is valuable (and there are risks and downsides associated with stringing out a bunch of big bonuses). And any player in our "real world" would be dumb as rocks not to be actively chasing it.

I'd actually like to collect these tonight so I can get the early morning sim done. Let's say 9pm Central.

Thanks'
