On Brewstonian Analytics

Post by shoeless.db » Tue Aug 06, 2019 12:43 pm

(Disclaimer: This piece came about due to my frustration over being unable to parse together a meaningful analytics piece on par with this community. I came to the conclusion I'm a reader of such work and not creator.)

The nature of this essay will confront the power and consequence which can be legitimately burgeoned by the utility of a systematic computational analysis of data and statistics. A device seldom denied, and widely discussed, in a general sense, but profoundly influential in the relative outcomes of a baseball game, and is likely to be uncovered as a vital cog in the dismantled hierarchy of established Brewster cultural norms.

The manners in which the analytics are deployed, directly and without conscious, while predisposed to the contrary, result in varied conditions of unrest within the soul of general managers. In time, like an obese grizzly consuming the rotted corpse of an aged elk, the numbers become, not in their raw state but highly economized, less than the sum of their storied parts.

With the aforementioned in the mind of the reader, the satisfying beauty, and subsequent value, of the substantial history and pains of the Brewster Baseball Association become, in a general use, apparent. Despite the minutia perpetrated by all among us, stated with a broad and colored brush, the blood, nay spirit, of countless, while counted, ballplayers descend upon our memories and future memories, like an endless parade, full of acrobats, dancing bears, and painted clowns. May we, my friend, mingle upon the curb of greatness, admire from up close the magic. Let us, therefor, in wild glory, disassemble the wondrous machines pulling the diorama winding before us, yet never forget the blaze, overwhelming and intense, energizing their cold practicality.

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.

But should we pay attention to RBIs or not?

Haha. I don’t know. I was just trying to channel my inner 19th century contrarian.

FYI. I wrote this tongue and cheek as I freaking love stats and analysis.

See, I was interpreting your "countless, while counted, ballplayers" line as code for, "You still pay attention to RBIs? What a noob." I may have been reading too much into it ... Or, perhaps, not enough ...

@recte44, will the 2040 BBA drug testing policy start including front office executives? Asking for a friend...

Just find something that interests you and write something you enjoy. The rest will sort itself out.
