2039 Draft Chatter
So who is going to draft Erik Wignes thinking he is the steal of the draft only to later realize he is just a really really good fielding 1B with no power.
Not a bad class compared to the norm. Not sure what direction Brooklyn is going to go at 8. I have a few bullet point areas we need to fill but I don't really see the "oh that's the guy!".

Re: 2039 Draft Chatter
Going over the list now. I'll have my pick in soon. Really like the SP from MD but $14M is a lot of chedda.

I saw that too. That has to be a record demand for BBA, no?

Re: 2039 Draft Chatter
Not sure. Only been around for 10 years seasons. I'd bet someone has been paid more to sign but demand wise, it has to be up there.

Re: 2039 Draft Chatter
Went with Shiplack. Was hoping a legit CF would pop up to be #1 worthy, but I can get behind taking a 10 contact up the middle player again. Lee was my other guy but again, the demand was too great. I could probably afford him as I have a lot budgeted again on top of some extra cash I didn't have last year. Figure I can take another high demand player or two if available though going this route. Happy with my pick regardless.

Re: 2039 Draft Chatter
Was real hard to resist a bat like McBride, but I don't draft glorified DH's this high, simply on principle.

Re: 2039 Draft Chatter
Was unable to talk myself into drafting McBride because of his range in the outfield went with a arm instead Timmy Karnes.

Drafting a pitcher this high gives me the heebie-jeebies, but I couldn't resist.

Re: 2039 Draft Chatter
Seriously, how does a guy get created with the ability to be a starting SS (or Zimmer caliber 3B) but he's created as a lefty so those ratings mean absolutely NOTHING. Whatever. I guess it's like a 10 stamina, dominant pitcher, that magically can't be used as a starter...ae37jr wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2019 1:03 pmSo who is going to draft Erik Wignes thinking he is the steal of the draft only to later realize he is just a really really good fielding 1B with no power.

Re: 2039 Draft Chatter
When I realize that two guys who are left-handed, can play a position (barely), and had 9 contact, 8 power, 6 eye were drafted 19th and 33rd overall, I wonder if we're still properly downgrading great bat/poor defenders or if the pendulum has swung the other way and they are now undervalued....
Two thirds of the OF having 5 range (if they don't fall to 4) is either crazy like a fox or just plain crazy. (though Ramos could be an above average defensive 1B if his OF range falls too low)

Re: 2039 Draft Chatter
Took McBride. I’m on vacation and couldn’t dig too deep, but he’s an elite bat, and we’re always in need of that. I can hide him in left too if he bumps his range a little.

Re: 2039 Draft Chatter
My first time drafting a pitcher with my first round pick. I have no pitchers in my farm with ace potential so this was my priority, especially seeing how the other prospects were mainly outfielders and corner infielders, which I already have an abundance of. I really liked Lee but that price tag was out of my budget. Vanness is pretty raw and will take a while to develop but he was the best choice for me.

Re: 2039 Draft Chatter
I've won a Landis with worse corner defense, so have others. Palacios hasn't seemed to hurt Rockville at all and Alfredo Martinez has played for numurous playoff teams.udlb58 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2019 10:16 pmWhen I realize that two guys who are left-handed, can play a position (barely), and had 9 contact, 8 power, 6 eye were drafted 19th and 33rd overall, I wonder if we're still properly downgrading great bat/poor defenders or if the pendulum has swung the other way and they are now undervalued....

I admit that Vega is best served as a dh. That is where he is penciled in for my future team. His pot vs rhp is 10/10/8/7/8. If I were forced to play his 5/5/7 glove for the sake of bringing in another elite bat, I'm fine with that. I have an 11 range cf and dozens of great defensive versatile defenders to sub him out late. His bat should justify it.
I think your reaching a bit with Ramos. 5/8/8 isn't a terrible defender in our league right now. It's probably closer to average. He's putting up positive zone ratings in the minors so I feel he is closer to 6 then to 4.
Don't get me wrong, I understand the risks and value of outfield defense. According to Ron's data we've got one of the best OF defense in the league right now and are grossly over achieving in part because of it. But in studying the great BBA teams of the recent past, you can sacrifice corner defense to a point if you are strong up the middle.

Re: 2039 Draft Chatter
Ouch. I overlooked that detail. I was wondering what I was missing. This should be reported to OOTP.udlb58 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2019 9:49 pmSeriously, how does a guy get created with the ability to be a starting SS (or Zimmer caliber 3B) but he's created as a lefty so those ratings mean absolutely NOTHING. I would have drafted Lee but his sign ability with the Kernels was impossible.

Re: 2039 Draft Chatter
I hope that nobody is doing a draft review this year cause I'll probably get killed for my pick. I wish I could have traded down because I didn't feel the top guys available were worthy of the 8th pick/money they were demanding.
I like Charette because a 9-10 movement starter seems pretty rare. The league has been very Homer friendly the last few years so I feel movement is a lot more valuable then it was several seasons ago. If I can put a good infield behind him then I think he'll do very well even with low stuff and control.
If not, high movement pitchers always have a trade market. And there is a chance I could throw this pick back and try again next year.
