OOTP retired a number on its own

In the last SIM, I got a notice that Bob "Turtle" Sanderson's No. 69 had been retired - and, sure enough, he's in the retired numbers tab in-game.

Can/should I keep his number retired? I wasn't aware the game did that on its own, although I have no problem with it. Sanderson certainly was a major figure in Huntsville history. I don't know that he's one of the first players I'd choose, but at some point I might have gotten around to him.

What do other GM's do in cases like this?

I don't know if there's a checkbox for this or not.

OOTP retired Brian Clough's number all on it's own too but that was a real no-brainer lol
