UMEBA DRAFT!!!

Post by recte44 » Thu Apr 18, 2019 8:25 pm

Using in-game lists will be Sundays sim.

Take a second look, there's at least 2 decent players per team available.

Yeah, the draft pool is dramatically better - there are now at least 16 prospects who look well worth drafting, another 7 or so who look decent, and another 8 who are worth at least a look. So that's roughly four rounds before we start to hit dreck, which seems pretty reasonable.

Should be interesting!

Any way to protect players like the rule v? I have no idea how this works.

This is just their ammy/entry draft. No BBA involvement.

Yes, it’s an in-game amateur draft for UMEBA only ... no worries!

I have no idea what this is...we just added umeba or whatever it is....any guidelines that I have missed on this draft and how it works and what the draft order is, etc?

If you don’t have a umeba franchise, i don’t think it will affect you in any way. If you do, the draft pool, order, etc. is in-game.

Oh...It's the Umeba amateur draft then. Gotcha.

Thank you!

Yes, the draft pool is entirely from our feeder league in Oceania (mostly Australia). Most of the prospects are terrible - but definitely not all! A handful of pitchers and some position players look fairly interesting, including one guy who has a 12 contact rating (on the UMEBA relative 10-point scale) but only had a slash line of .178/.323/.240 in his only year of high school ball. Go figure ... or better yet, don't. It'll make your head hurt!

About 3 rounds of viable players. Much better. Future Rule 6 picks? :D

I can see rule 6 and rule 7 drafts coming into play in a season or three. Technically, we could consider enacting them now, but maybe you'd just not see many players drafted?

I agree on enacting now. May not have people drafted the first few seasons, but I'd think it'd be better to get into the process again. Especially for GM's (like myself) who haven't gone through the process.

I know some have mentioned that it would be a conflict of interest since there are still a few dual league GM's. Being one of them, I volunteer to exclude myself from any part of the process if it means more fun for everyone else.

That said, there really isn't anything worth while to draft yet. If the rules are anything like the EBA rule 6, the players about to be drafted won't be eligible for at least 3-4 seasons. The only halfway decent players here now are the ones that were released by the BBA.

What are Rule 6 and 7 drafts? I need to look that up, I guess.

The players we draft won't be eligible for 3-4 seasons? Why?

Hmmm... searched for Rule 6 and 7 here and at the OOTP manual... nothing.

Are the rules different for BBA and UMEBA?

UMEBA is designed to be a GM feeder league essentially. In our universe the best players deserve their shot to play in the BBA. So the rule 6 is essentially a way for BBA teams to draft the best UMEBA players and bring them over. The rule 7 is the flip of this in that a team that has a player taken by a BBA team then gets to draft someone from that BBA franchise that is rule 5 eligible.

both of these things are unique to our league as many things are. You wont find any of this in the OOTP manual. Your best bet is to scour the constitution if you want to try to find it on your own or just ask here on the boards. Someone will answer. Or I guess the UMEBA channel on slack. I have that set to buzz me when someone posts there. I can answer most questions.

Thanks! I searched the constitution and didn't see rule 6 or 7 drafts in there.

They aren't in there anymore. The language was removed when the EBA was contracted. The UMEBA is the second incarnation of a GM feeder league, so most of us long time guys are familiar with the rules. But the documentation has lagged behind the creation of the UMEBA some. It'll catch up eventually, but until then, as Brett said, best idea is to hit up the boards like you did or just ask someone.

Neither one is likely to be an issue in the near term. In the old version, EBA players had to have 4 (or 5, I don't remember which) years of service time before they were eligible. If we remain similar with the UMEBA, these won't kick in for a couple more seasons.
