Within the last few sims, I've resigned Tu-Fu Yong, gotten the team above .500, havent traded away anyone, havent increased ticket prices, and my Fan Interest has still dropped 4 points and is now below 60 (59). It didnt get that low last year when the bottom dropped out. I'm 10th in the BBA in attendance and my per game attendance is up this year by over 21%. I remained baffled by FI.

FI is weird sometimes, but give it a little longer. :) Attendance is the key number, as it drives revenue.

FYI ... ours is down from 100 to 91 despite leading the league in wins.

I get it if I’m losing or trading away Captains or Fan Favs or something, but it’s dripping more than when I was actually doing those things.

In 207 ABs vs. RHP, my 8/7/8/6/5 DH (Norris Rutledge) has a .188/.251/.285 slash line for a .536 OPS. This game has gotten very frustrating in recent versions.
While not as bad as Rutledge this year, Noboru has suffered from a suddenly depressed average the last 2 years. He'd been over .320 multiple times and has hit .277 and .259 despite ratings staying rock solid.

Both Noboru and Rutledge are lowish AvK hitters. Their batting average will suffer more than others in a high Stuff/high K environment, which is what we have. Rutledge's situation is still pretty extreme, but there is that to take into account.

Like I said, Rutledge is extreme anyway, but low AvK hitters will do more poorly in high stuff environments than you might logically think.

We've been through this before...the difference caused by the Stuff/AVK warp is not insubstantial.

It's early in the year, so sample size is still coming in .. caution greatly suggested.

But I did a quick pull of batting data in our league right now. I then took a cut of hitters hitting with platoon advantages against LHP and RHP, and then combined the raw results to get a table of every at bat in the league that has batters facing pitchers with a platoon advantage. Unfortunately, I can't get a cut on pitcher stuff...so there's noise still in here. Again, warning. Do not take this chart as "real" so much as directional.

Here's the plot of batting average of hitters of CON = 7, 8, and 9 and how their actual batting averages (the value that the CON rating is supposed to represent) change with AVK.

I've said it before, I'll say it again...I'm trying again to be as open about this as I can possibly be: Low AvK is a bigger deal in leagues where Stuff is bloated.

This is not a version thing. It's been in every version of OOTP since we went to the DIPs based engine some dozen to fifteen years ago

I have noticed this with my own Tai hoi Wie. 8/6/9/9/4 ratings overall and here are his slash lines for the last 6 years.

.306/.430/.545
.314/.427/.641
.306/.417/.585
.280/.408/.478
.311/.422/.581
.248/.397/.400

His OBP is still incredible thanks to his eye, but everything else has taken a pretty sharp downward spiral this year.

I'd expect Wie to finish the year with numbers more in line with his career numbers than not. Maybe something close to two seasons ago.

His power is down (a shade from two seasons ago, a lot from last year...but regardless, he's been close to that rate before) but otherwise almost all of his drop is in BABIP, which normally runs about .350, and is .313 at this moment. If his BABIP was "normal," you'd probably barely feel the difference.

So it could be a ratings thing, or it could be that he's faced mostly great pitching and defense, or it could be random luck.

Randomish Note: as team defense gets better across the league, BABIP rates will fall.

Rutledge's biggest issue is in BABIP, also...but his has cratered against RHP (though it's not horrible bad overall) whereas Wie's is just down a notch.

The difference, on your chart, from 7 CON/5 AVK to 7 CON/10 AVK is 40 points of AVG which would equate to 80 points of OPS. Rutledge is 274 points under his career average (which is below what he put up the past 2 seasons). Which, by the way, he accrued with the same AVK rating. You're trying to find an explanation other than randomness, but there isn't one. The same way Valencia's AAAA catcher on the trade block is going gangbusters. These cases of extreme dissonance between talent and production are simply more common in newer OOTP versions than they used to be. Randomness in production is the spice of life, but it has to be bounded by logic or else it just becomes obnoxious.

Rutledge's strike out rate has risen to a career high, though (which might or might not be aggravated by the stuff/AvK warp). I note his k-rate looks to kave been getting higher over the last three seasons, but has taken a bit of a cliff event this year.

His walk rate is down, but not so much that it wouls raise an eye. (heh)

His Power is way down.

His BABIP doesn't look horrible until you add in the splits.

One would have to guess he'll rebound (especially his BABIP vs. RHP), but Rutledge looks more on his way out than Wie, and to me I'd be most concerned about the AvK/BABIP relationship.
