Re: 2038, BBA Draft Chatter
I thought Jose Sanchez was a steal there. But what do I know. I’m the worst drafting GM in this place.

Re: 2038, BBA Draft Chatter
I always feel kinda bad after situations like this. I just don't recognize why he would be a good SP conversion candidate and I certainly do not understand why it would make him a top SP in the draft.

Kyle can add more here, because he's fiddled with it more, but Delgado is a SP conversion canditate because:crobillard wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2019 3:52 pmI always feel kinda bad after situations like this. 1) He has only two pitches and they are both pretty good--in the case of the changeup, it's elite. So when they lose a little off the top, they don't lose much.
2) He'll be very good (top 1-5 is debatable, but regardless, very good)...because the 8/9/7 may drop to 7/9/7, but probably not if you add a stuff-like pitch, like, say, a fastball. In fact, it might rise to 8/9/7. Pretty solid right there. In addition, his stamina will raise from 6 to...whatever it goes to (even if it stays "6" it's a bigger six.
BOTTOM LINE: relievers with only two solid pitches and a decent stamina are conversion candidates. Personally, these days I think a lot more about converting these guys to starters than I do converting SP to relievers (though a lot of those conversions happen).
3) He's also 17, so there's a likelihood he'll get better (though, like with the rest it's more likely he'll lump)

Thanks Ron. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled and try it out.RonCo wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2019 4:01 pmKyle can add more here, because he's fiddled with it more, but Delgado is a SP conversion canditate because:crobillard wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2019 3:52 pmI always feel kinda bad after situations like this. Re: 2038, BBA Draft Chatter
I don't know if you guys noticed this. Now with relevant ratings, you can list a RP as a starter and it may in fact increase his stuff. I've seen it with a few pitchers. In the past it was always the opposite.

Re: 2038, BBA Draft Chatter
Furthermore on Ernesto, I think he's listed as an SP so that means his overall stuff as an RP is a tick or two higher than shown now.

I was trying to decide between him and the guy I took next as 1 or 2 on my list. Thanks for helping out.aaronweiner wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2019 6:46 pmGot one of the pitchers who was on my shortlist for #29,so that’s a win.

Re: 2038, BBA Draft Chatter
Nice pick Ron. I almost took Mendoza. If it wasnt for his "1" at "Turn DP" I would have taken him and tried to make him a 2B. That scared me off.

Re: 2038, BBA Draft Chatter
2 non-knuckleball pitches, tagged in game as a SP and has good ratings? He's a SP conversion candidate - and will more than likely exit the conversion with the exact same ratings as you see now + a 3rd pitch.crobillard wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2019 4:09 pmThanks Ron. 2 non-knuckleball pitches, tagged in game as a RP, but still has good velocity and stuff potential? He's a SP conversion candidate - though will more than likely lose 2+ STU in the conversion (hence why they need to have high stuff POT from the start).
That's really it. And when you do a conversion, ALWAYS add a fastball variant as the 3rd pitch. That's because the 3rd pitch comes in at a comically low grade on the internal scale so you NEED to have it get bumped by velocity to be a reasonable 3rd pitch on the external scale. Fastball variants that I can think of off the top of my head are: fastball, 2-seam, sinker, splitter, cutter, slider. If you try to give the guy a changeup or knuckleball or something it's gonna come in as a '1' or a '2' and you'll have wasted the prospect. I can talk more about the theory of which one of those variants to choose when you have a discrete example because it's pitcher dependent on what'll be best, imo. Also probably a little dependent on how you build your rosters.

That's two rounds in a row you took the other guy I had in my top two, Aaron. Great minds or something like that ...
