5-2 to move about ten games up on everybody.

That's neat.

Gonzáles's Wife Causes Ruckus - Disses Long Beach
In an interview with the local media, the wife of Long Beach's Carlos Gonzáles has criticized the local region, calling it, "A one-horse town with nothing to do and no good shops."

She went on to praise other BBA cities, saying she would love to see her husband be the face of the franchise in a "nice" city.

When asked about his wife's comments, the hot-hitting left fielder was dismayed.

"Look, I love her," he said, "but I am not responsible for what she says to you guys. I love the city of Long Beach and plan to be here a long time."

Despite Gonzáles's comments, fans of the Long Beach Surfers are worried about the left fielder's place on the team going forward. Said one local fan, "I have a wife too and what she wants, she typically gets, even if she has to pull me there kicking and screaming."

Gilliam Dominates with Perfect Game
The near-impossible occurred today: Edwin Gilliam pitched a perfect game, securing a place for himself in baseball history.

Starting for the Calgary Pioneers, Gilliam defeated the Hawaii Tropics 1-0 in a no-run, no-hit, no-man-reach-first game -- the rarest of the rare.

"I knew what was going on," he acknowledged to BNN after the game. "I was hoping the fans would kind of shush a little bit. They were making me nervous."

When his perfect day on the mound ended, he pumped his fist twice at the ground as he was swarmed by his teammates. He made his way off the field to a standing ovation from the crowd and gave fans a final wave before disappearing into the clubhouse.

"You don't talk to the guy about it, of course, but I could tell he was confident," Pioneers manager Terry Cochran said. "He wanted it."

The right-hander walked nobody and struck out 8 in the game, for which he had a special audience in the stands -- his parents. Gilliam said his dad appeared puzzled in the clubhouse after the game and asked what all the excitement was about.

"He said he got there late, and I was like, 'Oh my god, you missed my perfect game!'" Gilliam recounted. "Of course, turns out he was kidding. They had seen the whole thing."

Gilliam has posted a 2-4 record for the year with a 5.46 ERA. Teams are hitting .292 against him and he has rung up 43 strikeouts in 61 innings.

you are just in the wrong league, you would be sitting pretty in the Johnson right about now... We could see a sub .500 playoff team in 1 league, and a 90 win team sitting home in the other.

Said one local fan, "I have a wife too and what she wants, she typically gets, even if she has to pull me there kicking and screaming."

well I guess that explains why he signed with Boise in the offseason...
