Spuds Front Office Shakeup; Palin Takes Over as GM

Hope springs eternal.

At least that was the mood of the press conference when it was announced that Jeff Palin would be the new GM of the Boise Spuds. Team owners and fans are really enthused about the signing and are looking forward to the upcoming season.

"I'm very honored to be working for the fans of Boise. We have several questions to resolve, and a wholesale team assessment to perform, along with time constraints to consider," Jeff Palin told reporters at the press conference. "Baseball is a year-round job these days, and I'm fortunate to be working with the Spuds ownership."

Ridder Makes 400 HR Mark
Mexico City defeated Las Vegas today 7-4 and took some of the joy out of Gervasio Ridder's 400th career home run.

"I just wanted to get a good swing on the ball all day," Ridder said. "And I did."

Despite the loss, it was a good game for the 32-year-old Hustlers first baseman. He had 1 hit, scored 1 run and had 1 run batted in.

The Aztecs manager said, "You could see he was aggressive up there. The worst thing we did was throw him a strike. It probably would have been better if we threw the ball outside of the strike zone every time he came to the plate because he seemed like he was in a hurry to get it over with."

Ridder is hitting .325 during his 1823-game career. He has 2332 hits, 458 doubles, 19 triples, 400 home runs, 1339 RBIs, 6 stolen bases and 1179 runs scored.

May's Best Batter Announced
New Orleans Crawdads fans believe they've got a talented young star in Virgil Shafer.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in May, as he hit .370 with 12 home runs, 36 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

The end result was the center fielder being named the Johnson League Batter of the Month.

In 53 games this season Shafer has compiled a .358 batting average with 76 hits and 24 home runs. He has also scored 41 times and knocked in 61 runs.

FL Announces Best Batter Award
Jared Gillstrom battered Frick League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Brewster Baseball Association long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 32-year-old Gillstrom told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Gillstrom hit .383 with 14 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 34 runs.

Gillstrom currently has a .348 batting average with 81 hits, 20 homers, 44 RBIs, 56 runs scored and a .383 OBP.

Relief Star Wins JL Top Pitcher Honors
Louisville's Axel Goulding solidified his position as a fine reliever, claiming the Johnson League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

Coming in from the bullpen 11 times he accumulated 7 saves and 8 strikeouts in 11.1 innings. He had a good month with a 2-0 record and a 1.59 ERA.

This season Goulding has been credited with 8 saves in 14 relief appearances. In 16.2 innings he has a 2-0 won-lost mark, 1.08 ERA and 12 strikeouts

California Starter May's Best Pitcher
Miguel Ramos has made fans throughout Brewster Baseball Association take notice over the past month with an exceptional 4-0 record. No pitcher in the Frick League threw better in May, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 5 starts Ramos compiled a 0.97 ERA, putting up a 4-0 record, striking out 40 and tossing 37 innings.

This year Ramos has registered 10 wins and no losses in 11 starts with a 0.92 ERA while registering 85 strikeouts and 23 walks in 78 innings.

Johnson League Names Rookie of Month
Wichita's Alex Ramírez collected 35 hits to snare the Johnson League Rookie of the Month for May.

He batted .350 with 5 home runs, 14 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

This season Ramírez is batting at a .292 clip with 8 home runs and 27 RBIs.

Big Month for FL Rookie
Though he's only 24, Luther Summers really put together a spectacular May to capture the Frick League Rookie of the Month honor.

The Seattle starter spun 5 wins and no losses as he posted a 2.45 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 36.2 innings.

To date this year, Summers shows a 6-4 record, 10 starts, 68 innings, 58 strikeouts and a 4.50 ERA.

4-2 sim for the Goats! Split (1-1) with Rockville and swept Brooklyn, all on the road. Lost the first game of the series with Jax. That's a tough 6-game stretch right there and I'm pretty happy with the results. :pickles:

4-3 is disappointing, but outscoring opponents 76-45 is nice. Granted that was helped greatly by a 27-3 smackdown of Yellow Springs.

Also gillstrom winning POM with 14 homers is nice, maybe he knew he was on the trade block.

I've been waiting for this sim for a while. My offense sucks as it is, let alone without 2 of our 4 big bats.

On the bright side, nobody got hurt and we are only a game out.

He's been nothing short of amazing.

Chris Kelly and Ken Walter seem to have some issues to get worked out... lol

Though Walter looks like he might have turned things around the last two weeks.

It's a little crazy that Chris Kelly is the only losing pitcher in the stating rotation at 2 wins - 6 losses.

Do we vote in game for the All Star game?

Or will it be through Stats Plus?

Just checking because All Star voting is open in game.

We had a bullpen injury early in the sim, so that game was finished with a first baseman and an outfielder on the hill.

That said, I'm not sure what's up with Valle this year. Our defense isn't helping him, but his walk rate is way up.
