Curious, was anyone else eyeing Jaramillo in the 1st? I argued back and forth with myself on whether I should take him now or wait until the 2nd.
I did that back in 2033 with Jharrod Thealer. I wanted to take him in R1 but passed and low and behold he was there in round 2.

I finally had to go in game and figure out what I was missing with Jaramillo. Elian Jaramillo was the first one to show up on my pitchers list and I was afraid I was missing some sort of inside joke here. Clearly it's Raul. And no, I wouldn't have looked at him first round. Be surprised with the depth of this draft he's not there in round 2 or potentially 3 assuming Yellow Springs doesnt take him with their 95 picks.

He's going to be SP converted. Should stay 8/8/9 POT with a 5 cutter as the 3rd pitch.
There could be quite a few RP's that could be good candidates for conversion, but there seems to be a silly number of them that have 2 great pitches and 1 change up.... lol.

So I had no idea I was on the clock for R1 and got auto'd. Anyone know if there's a way to get a notification when I'm on the clock?

I went through all the 'good' candidates and most DQ'd themselves by having the low 3rd pitch that you mention. Jaramillo was the only one I was targeting specifically for it, but I might've missed one. There are two more that are eligible, but less than ideal, candidates on my radar, too. If they fell to me in the 2nd I might take them and then decide later if I prefer them as good relievers or mediocre starters.

Yeah, that's what I figured you'd do. I wasn't sure if he'd maintain the 8 stuff as a starter conversion. One of the few (maybe the only) relief pitchers at the top of the draft without the damn junk 1/1 changeup.

I really really really tried to talk myself into taking a starter. But I just saw too many flaws in the top starters remaining. Ultimately the well developed (for a 17 year old) lefty bat with the potential to have a few passable seasons in LF won out.

He's a weird case because he's already tagged in game as a SP despite only two non-knuckleball pitches. So you wouldn't expect a downtick in his stuff since the biggest 'hit' a player takes is from switching RP->SP in their tag. It's honestly crazy that he has an 8 STU POT as a 2-pitch SP. To get that to manifest in my test league I needed to very nearly max out both the slider and sinker on the internal 1-250.

As an aside, as a PSA, this draft class was terrible about tagging SP vs. RP. I ended up giving up trying to keep it straight and went through every pitcher to re-tag them (and adjusting their potentials based on the new tag) in my draft sheet.

That’s why I took Cruz. The last decent SP left (IMO)

oh damn I didn't even consider that his stuff rating was as an SP.

This class seemed about average as far as SP/RP tagging...I normally go through them anyway and re-tag.

Picked Domingo. He's so raw, but he could be a real big deal someday for me.

Domingo at 30 feels like good value. Only player in the pool that you could squint and see a starting ss one day. If he bumps that range and actually develops he will be a steal.

And if he doesn't he might take Larry Blake's job at third base.

I took a bit of a reach with Pena at SS, but brilliant gloves attached to a possibility of a decent bat softened me up.

I liked Pena. Was hoping he would be available in the 2nd round.

Somehow I had a feeling he wouldn't make it back around to me when I saw that you had 4 of the last 8 picks.

I had Pena in my draft list as a guy to keep an eye out for in the next few rounds so I wouldn't forget about him. Thought he may be a sleeper later. I guess I was wrong!

I also eyed Saito with my pick at 12 but decided to pass on the high contact, low power guy because that's my typical guy. Was hoping he may fall to me in round 2.

So long story short, you took 2 of the guys I was hoping would fall to me later so I now have further dislike of you and Yellow Springs. haha

I was having trouble deciding between Saito and Velez, so Ron made that decision easy for me.

Francisco Franco is an "Impossible" signing for me, which is probably stupid to do for a supplemental pick. Hopefully I can just park a Brinks truck in his driveway and steal him away from college.
