Meyer Grabs JL Best Batter Award for April
It was a good month for Phoenix Talons center fielder Thad Meyer, April's Johnson League Batter of the Month.

Meyer starred by hitting .393 with a .460 on-base percentage. He totaled 44 hits in 112 at-bats, 10 home runs, 16 RBIs and scored 25 runs.

Mick Named FL Batter of the Month
Jon Mick battered Frick League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Brewster Baseball Association long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 31-year-old Mick told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Mick hit .362 with 11 home runs, 29 RBIs and scored 24 runs.

Crusaders Hurler Named FL's Best Starter
Question: Who was the #1 pitcher in the Frick League in April?
Answer: That would be Miguel Ramos of the California Crusaders.
He excelled with a 6-0 mark and a 0.88 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 41 innings, fanned 45 and held opposing teams to a .177 average. That's exactly why the Frick League scribes voted him the Pitcher of the Month.

April's Starter of the Month Goes to Richard
San Antonio starter Fernand Richard really put the chill on opposing teams in April and today was acclaimed the Johnson League Pitcher of the Month.

He excelled with a 3-1 mark an

JL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Alonso Olvere earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Johnson League for last month's performance. The boyish Montreal right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Olvere hit .457 with 4 home runs, 10 RBIs and 12 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Frick League Names Rookie of Month
Yellow Springs's José García collected 27 hits to snare the Frick League Rookie of the Month for April.

He batted .329 with 4 home runs, 14 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

Boone Joins Greats
What does it take to make the baseball Hall of Fame?

Well, whatever it is, Mingo Boone has it. He was inducted into the Brewster Baseball Association Hall of Fame today.

Retiring at age 42, Boone had one of the most illustrious careers ever with a 239-156 won-loss mark and a 3.58 ERA. He racked up 572 mound appearances and struck out 2865 in 3628.1 innings.

Asked by reporters to describe what it takes to become a Hall of Famer, he replied, "I guess it all started at my high school graduation. The speaker said to be successful in life, you needed to find 'something you love.' I am here today because I found something I love. Baseball has been my life. It has never been a job. I have been able to have fun playing a game and making a wonderful life for myself and my family. I am a kid that never really had to grow up. Just go to the ballpark each day and throw strikes. That's it."

Mingo Boone closed by saying, "God gave me the talent and blessed me with great coaches, managers, and teammates, who helped me develop it."

Estes Takes Place Among Greats
During his fantastic pitching career Gary Estes was hard-nosed competitor. Prior to an important game, he once told reporters, "If we lose today, it will be over my dead body. They'll have to leave me face down on the mound."

It was this attitude that helped to inspire Estes to such an outstanding career. Today he was rewarded with his admission into the Brewster Baseball Association Hall of Fame.

Estes retired from baseball at age 41 and fashioned a 240-127 won-lost record in his career with a 3.58 ERA. The gifted hurler appeared in 559 games, fanned 2935 hitters and piled up 3436 innings pitched.

One of his managers at the induction ceremony observed, "Gary was a bulldog on the mound. If a man put a gun to my head and said I'm going to pull the trigger, if you lose this game, I'd want him to pitch that game."

Legends Welcome Sánchez to HOF
António Sánchez, the great first baseman and consummate professional, was inducted into the Brewster Baseball Association Hall of Fame today.

At the induction ceremony, he grew misty-eyed as he recalled the highlights of his playing career: his first base hit, his first home run and -- humorously -- the first time he was thrown out at home plate.

Sánchez says he blew through his third base coach's stop sign. As he returned to the dugout, his manager simply glared at him.

"His eyes just burned a hole right through me," Sánchez chuckled. "If looks could kill, I wouldn't be here today."

More often than not, Sánchez pleased his managers and coaches during a superb career.

His all-time numbers show Sánchez compiled a .265 batting average and collected 2561 hits, 583 home runs and 1768 RBIs. In all, he played in 2662 games. Sánchez retired from baseball in 2035.

Eisenhower Joins Greats in BBA Hall of Fame
The way Hunter Eisenhower played baseball made the word "superstar" seem inadequate. He played the game at an even higher level and that's why he is now one of the immortals in the Brewster Baseball Association Hall of Fame.

Eisenhower played in 2381 games with a .275 lifetime batting average. Among his 2450 hits were 494 doubles, 19 triples and 402 home runs. He also scored 1327 runs and drove in 1340 runs. Eisenhower was 39 when he retired.

One of his teammates described the talented third baseman this way: "The greatness of Hunter Eisenhower was something that had to be seen... and to see him was to remember him forever."

Hunter Eisenhower was inducted into the Hall of Fame today after being elected by the Baseball Writers Association.

The new Hall of Famer told the audience, "I just went out and did my job every day... and I guess I must have done it well. Thank you for the honor you have given me today."

Ramírez Among Greats in BBA HOF
When you think about some of the greatest names in baseball history, Nelson Ramírez's name inevitably pops up. The recently retired hurler, who struck out 2909 batters on his way to a 175-139 record, was a dominating figure on the mound, frustrating hitters and opposing fans everywhere. Now, Ramírez takes his rightful place among the greats in the Brewster Baseball Association Hall of Fame.

"I loved throwing the ball around with my dad back when I was a little kid," Ramírez recounted for the crowd at the ceremony. "It started out as a way to bond with him and as I got older and began to dream of being a big leaguer. He always encouraged me and never let me give up."

Lifetime, Nelson Ramírez appeared in 421 games, hurled 2924.2 innings and put up a 3.40 ERA. He retired at the age of 37.

Another winning sim for the Goats! 4-2 with all six games on the road!

Another pitcher lost for the season. Two SPs (Maeda and now Bird) and one RP (Reyna). Starting to have flashbacks of last season. Guess we get an early look at some youngsters this season.

Digging the first month. Yeah we are in third in the division but have the highest run differential in the Heartland and third best overall in the Frick.

Really enjoying what is normally a slow start for our club. Guarantee the franchise hasnt seen a 20-9 start in well over 10 years.

so i bring up Mitchell Swanson (aka Jon Reed Jr), as a 6 week placeholder and all he does in his BBA debut is throw a complete game 2 hit shutout with 9 Ks and 1 Walk (game score of 91). I would be surprised if he ever had a better pitching performance in his career lol.

.500 sim. All .500 sims would get me a record of about 85 wins.
