Ok, I was able to end the regular season after three days of more super-annoying Mexico City rainout nonsense.

Long Beach and Twin Cities did end the year tied for the last Wild Card in the FL, so they have a one game play-in game tomorrow night!

Vancouver Selects Fresh Face in GM Search
Feeling the heat to settle on a new GM, the Vancouver Mounties tapped Taylor Bettencourt as the new head man.

"We've taken our time in finding what we hope is an excellent, far-seeing general manager. I don't think you'll have to worry about Bettencourt suffering from myopia. He presented a clear, concise, and realistic assessment of our club in every interview we held, and just seemed to grasp what we're looking for," noted an official close to negotiations.

Number 400 for Grant
Calgary's 10-1 victory over Boise was highlighted by Rupert Grant's 400th career home run. His teammates congratulated him at home plate after he circled the bases.

"I didn't see all of them out there," Grant said with a chuckle, "until I rounded third base." He added sheepishly: "It was only a home run. It's not like I won us a World Series!"

In 4 at-bats the Pioneers first baseman collected 1 hit in his historic game, scored 1 run, and had 1 RBI.

His career numbers show Grant is hitting .264 with a total of 400 home runs.

Tallent Takes Personal Leave
Hawaii third baseman Dave Tallent will miss an indefinite period of time to tend to "personal issues". Tallent refused to elaborate on what exactly the issues were, but added that they were "more important than baseball, that's for sure." Tropics manager Aurélien Guérin commented that they will "expect to be without Tallent for quite some time and that we'll have to plan long-term to be without him."

Mexico City On Top of Johnson League Sun Belt Division
The Mexico City Aztecs have taken a first big step in winning the franchise's first Landis Memorial Series.

"We're champions of the Johnson League Sun Belt Division and now it's time to get that championship," said left fielder José Estrada. "The fans deserve it and all the guys in this room want to bring that title home."

It is the club's 7th division title and although they have never won the league championship, manager Mark Bruner said the club will "certainly be prepared" once playoffs begin.

Frick League Heartland Division Title Goes to Nine
Fans of the Yellow Springs Nine have a lot to get excited about, as the club has captured the Frick League Heartland Division crown.

It's the 7th time in franchise history that the club has finished atop the standings and they now have an opportunity to capture the franchise's 1st Brewster Baseball Association championship.

Manager Bret Richards said there's "a lot of excitement" in Yellow Springs over the club right now and they hope to live up to expectations.

For his part, starting pitcher Lawrence Columbus LaLoosh said the division championship is "just a start" for his team.

"We want to go all the way, win the Landis Memorial Series," he said. "Winning the division - we could get used to this."

Dempsey Slugs 400th Home Run
Swinging his way into the record books, Mark Dempsey reached the 400 homer mark today at Trump Park against the Atlantic City Gamblers. He went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI and 2 runs on the day, although Montreal would go down to defeat 7-6.

"It was a distraction," Dempsey said of his 400th home run. "I'm happy it's over. I just wish I'd been able to make a difference in the outcome today."

In his career Dempsey has racked up 1880 hits with a .272 average and .348 on-base percentage. His numbers include 315 doubles, 11 triples, and 400 home runs, along with 977 runs scored and 1117 RBIs.

Members of the Atlantic City Gamblers said they expected to end up in the playoffs and they anticipate many more celebrations to come.

Rockville Narrowly Wins Johnson League Atlantic Division
Fans of the Rockville Pikemen are certainly optimistic regarding their team's chances to become Landis Memorial Series champions, after it became official that the club has won the Johnson League Atlantic Division.

"I think our fans think we're the best team in the league and you know what? Our guys think the same thing," said reliever Fernando Márquez. "We've got a real good chance to take this title."

It would be the 3rd league championship for the club, which has won the Johnson League Atlantic Division for the 12th time.

Manager Chet Rouse said he's spent many years in pro ball, but there's "just something special" about his current group of players.

"This team has got what it takes to be a champion," he said.

Phantoms Come up Short of Playoffs
It "never gets easier" to have a playoff push come to an end, according to closer Esteban Velásquez of the Huntsville Phantoms. The Huntsville player said his club was banking on being able to push themselves into the postseason, but they are now mathematically eliminated.

This is the club's 5th playoff miss in a row. They last appeared in the postseason in 2031. In the last 10 seasons, the Phantoms have missed the playoffs 4 times. In total, the Phantoms have missed the playoffs 24 times in their 41-year history. Huntsville has won the Landis Memorial Series 4 times in their history.

Las Vegas Clinches Wild Card
The Las Vegas Hustlers certainly made things interesting.

The Johnson League Sun Belt Division club have battled to the bitter end and have come up with a wild card berth.

"It's satisfying to clinch the playoffs so late in the season," said closer Shawn Huber. "You start to doubt yourself and wonder if you can even make it."

But the Hustlers have in fact made it, with their 89-73 record holding up to now give them a chance at the franchise's 7th Brewster Baseball Association championship.

Seattle's Crépin Snaps up September Batting Award
Lionnel Crépin may be much younger than other hitters in the Frick League, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in September to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 25-year-old Seattle right fielder hit .355 with 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

This year Crépin is hitting .290 with 35 home runs and 92 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .405 clip and scored 100 runs.

Kun Is September's Best JL Hurler
Hao Kun hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Johnson League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In September the Las Vegas starter earned a 4-0 mark in 6 starts. He threw 42.2 innings, struck out 37 and compiled a solid 2.32 ERA.

For the season Kun has compiled a 18-7 record with a 3.28 ERA.

Frick League Announces September's Top Pitcher
Jerry Coyle had an excellent September and has been rewarded with the Frick League Pitcher of the Month Award. The Twin Cities relief ace was one tough customer on the mound, constantly coming in and getting his club out of trouble or protecting a one-run or two-run lead.

During the month, the River Monsters star had 5 saves in 7 save opportunities, a 3.12 ERA and 5 wins and no losses. In 17.1 innings Coyle struck out 13 and gave up 22 hits and 7 walks.

To date he has nailed down 9 saves for his club. In 19 relief appearances, Coyle has 75 strikeouts in 174.1 innings with a 3.82 ERA and a 13-10 mark.

Johnson League Names Rookie of Month
José Vázquez's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Louisville first baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In September he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .441 with 11 doubles, 1 triple and 5 home runs. Vázquez also scored 15 times and drove in 17 runs.

This season Vázquez is swinging the bat at a .320 rate with 127 hits in 397 at-bats. To date he has hit 24 home runs, scored 61 runs and driven in 65.

Montoya Voted September's Rookie Trophy
23-year-old Rafael Montoya is deceptively poised for such a young man. In 4 starts he bagged 3 wins in September and took home the Frick League Rookie of the Month Award.

The Des Moines hurler logged a 3-0 record, 19 strikeouts in 31 innings, held opponents to a .176 average and compiled an ERA of 0.87.

This year in 5 starts, Montoya has recorded 3 wins and absorbed no losses. He has pitched 36.1 innings, allowed 23 hits, struck out 20 and has a 1.73 ERA.
