Sandcastle Reaches 3000 Milestone
"It would have been a lot nicer if my 3000th hit had won the game," said Leon Sandcastle after the Huntsville Phantoms had been tripped up by the Charm City Jimmies, 3-2, spoiling his big day. The Phantoms left fielder gained access to the exclusive 3000-hit club by going 1-for-5 in the game played at The Opera House.

"The standing ovation by the fans is not something I will ever forget," Sandcastle said to the press after the game. "I think even the Jimmies fans were cheering me."

Sandcastle is hitting .302 lifetime with 3000 hits, 439 doubles, 125 triples, 450 home runs and 1502 RBIs to date. He has scored 1711 runs, walked 1342 times and has a .387 OBP.

Yikes, Tong injured again. Would it surprise you to learn that I hired a LEGENDARY team trainer this offseason? I assume his 'legend' has something to do with using pitcher's arm tendons as guitar strings when he plays with his garage Nirvana cover band.

Little bit of breathing room in the division, but a 5-1 sim only opened up an extra game over the playoff cut line. On the down side, we lose our #2 pitcher for the remainder of the season. On the plus side, Rutledge goes 30/30 for the 6th time in his career and Martinez continues to hit.

Back to back 5-2 sims for the Goats! A .500 record on August 13th for only the 2nd time in the last 10 seasons (last time, I'm assuming, was 2030). Even managed to take 3 of 4 from Huntsville, in Huntsville, and only gave up 2 HRs during those 4 games.
