Best Bump in History??

Post by jiminyhopkins » Thu Jun 22, 2017 6:46 pm

This latest sim saw Carlton Winson (8/8/11/9/5 Talents, .281/.410/.616, 41 HR, 97 RBI, 18 SB) reach new levels of ratings glory, including an absurd 12 power rating vs RHP..

Just three short years ago, in the EBA, his potentials were 4 contact, 5 power, 6 eye.

I guess I can't get mad at OOTP anymore for the various lumps over the years, since Phoenix has been gifted with Winson's talents.

In any case, are there any other stories of players bumping from sub-AAA ceiling to MVP level in three seasons? I'd be interested in hearing about them.

Not to that extent, but Sam Romero went from an ok reliever to a perennial Nebraska Award candidate.

Not quite as fast, but Rutledge went from 6/6/5 potential in 2025 to 9/9/6 potential (and 10/10/7 vRHP) by 2029. He doesn't have the stamina to start, but Markert was 6/4/5 when I signed him in 2029.

The bumps are insane on Winson but the bad news is he is gonna be 29 going into next season on a team that will finish 2nd from last in its division. There is gonna be a ton of pressure on you to do everything you can to build and win as fast as possible. Its gonna be a hell of a ride really.

I don't recall seeing anyone with a rating above 10 before. Also what could I trade you along with my right nut for him?

I think something with the ratings was changed. If you look around, you'll see a lot of guys with 11-13 ratings now.

Nothing kills trade talks like the player you are trying to acquire bumping up to 12 power. My trade talks with Sean = :gimme:

Wonder if I should strike while the iron is hot? :headscratch:

I've rejected numerous trade inquiries so far but maybe I am doing a disservice to the franchise by holding on to such an elite player when the team is nowhere near the playoffs.

Just my personal opinion, I'd trade him in a heartbeat. Go young. On the flip side I also see nothing wrong with getting aggressive and trading from the farm to prop up next years team either. Either could be a legit strategy. I think what you cannot do though, is grow slowly. Winson doesn't have time for that.

Jose Estrada has to be on this list somewhere. He had 5/4/2 potentials when I promoted him from IC to Winter League to fill an outfield spot. He's currently 9/10/3 and has 51 homers, a 6.1 WAR and an OPS over 1000. Dude is nuts.

Estrada needs to come down with Yellow Fever.

Take that as you will.

Yeah. The history is lost now (i think), but he bumped alot.

i've actually had alot of luck in this department. On my current roster:
3B Mark Dempsey - an UDFA, who is now 7/6/9/8/6, which is actually a decrease from where he was
SP Gabriel Alfonso, another UDFA who is now 8/7/8 with 3 good pitches.
OF Pedro Canales - Terrible this year, but a UDFA who peaked at 9/9/7, but has lumped since.
