San Antonio Outlaws: SP Roberto Gómez becomes a free-agent.

Gómez to Donate Kidney to Ailing Brother

San Antonio starting pitcher Roberto Gómez has decided to retire from baseball in order to donate a kidney to his brother. Doctors say Gómez's brother, who has advanced kidney disease, probably won't survive without a new organ.

"As much as I love the game of baseball, I love my brother more," said Gómez. "I'm just doing what I would hope someone would do for me if I needed it."

Jim Whitacre had nothing but praise for his teammate.

"Roberto is such an incredible guy. To walk away from all of this to help someone he cares about just shows how much class he has."

His manager, Francisco Hernández, was equally impressed with Gómez's generosity.

"It takes a lot of character to make a sacrifice like that. We wish him and his brother all the best and we'll definitely be praying for their speedy recovery."

we didn't hit a home-run this year in the Rule V, (ended up with our 11th and 27th (last) picks), but I think we picked up a young solid cost controlled loogy for the Sluggers bullpen for the next six seasons, and an intriguing outfielder who we will probably have to give back...thanks Havana!

I was hoping to maybe land Soto and Snabel and rebuild my staff some and then fill holes with cheap vets. Snabel I missed on, lost a lot of the vets I offered to this sim.

So now I have Soto and need to get busy trying to figure out who fills the holes I have left

@7teen Argh, looks you got Soto because I was too cute with my contract offer. I offered him a decent bit more each year, but less guaranteed (I had a vesting option in for year 4 given his age) so he went with you. I'd also offered a 5th year team option. Ah well, that's what I get.
