I have to be honest: I'm kind of excited about the Simpson/Dempster deal. Dempster is the sort of player I wouldn't be able to get unless I bottomed out, so it's a big move here. My minor league pitching farm is really strong now.

Yeah, loved that deal for CAR. 6/7/6 at age 20 with 10/8/6 pot is as close to a sure thing prospect as you can get, imo.

Without looking, that looks suspiciously like got he got re-tagged as a SP after the deal went through.

You're right, that's what it was.

Yeah, Carolina wins the deal if Dempster reaches that potential and stays healthy. I just have a bad feeling about him that I can't shake. And Simpson should be a good reliable hitter for a long time.

Bottom line I see higher upside with more risk for Carolina, lower risk lower upside for me.

Which is exactly the sort of deal I needed, since my team is clearly FUBARed on the field. Though Simpson would have helped that too.

I know the asking prices will come down, but something is very broken in OOTP when Armando Reyes has a .186/.230/.344 year, then opts out of a contract with a team option for 8 mil and at least guarantees 2 mil in a buyout, and then asks for a 5 year deal at age 34 with a AAV of 21.4 million. Alain Perras hasn't played in the Brewster since 2024, but he's pretty sure he's worth 9.5 per over four years. This is just beyond stupid.

Since 17 hit it's been weird.

So these are just going to start dropping as time passes? Like people aren't going to offer them contracts for a few aims and the asking price will come down?

Just wondering as it's been several years since I've done online. I don't want to be offering contracts if no one else is and ruining my chance to continuing negotiating. Obviously not looking for anyone's specific plans.

Yes. But now is the time to strike if you really want a guy for what he's asking; otherwise you wait and the price comes down after the New Year.

Well, he DID want $81 million.

Maybe he laughs at your puny offer.

Well, I pretty much offered what he was asking for, with a player option and team buyout (though I did have the rare, cash buyout to help keep the guaranteed value higher)

I had my eye on Salazar but pulled the plug when he laughed at my $92m/4 yrs offer. Indy are nowhere near the stage where we have to pay over $100m for one player. Better to nibble at the edges of the problem, maybe in a few years I'll be at a stage where those one or two top FA's will push us over the top

Rule 5 and the draft is Indy's path. "Grasshopper, you must follow the path to enlightenment "

I wonder if the demands are related to the cap space available. With the expansion clubs, there IS a lot of money out there

Possibly. Maybe overall league revenue going up as well? (which I assume happened, without checking, with the 4 extra clubs)

I haven't looked at what the expansion guys have in budget, but they could pick up some real good talent this year. You could build a decent bullpen from this pool for abt 12-15 mil from scratch
