Did we just subtract from cash for something?

I assume we did and I just missed it, because I went from about -24 million to -39 million.

You must pay $100 to each player for each hotel you own and $50 to each player for each house you own. The absolute worst thing to see when you are winning.

Yes, that was your negative bonus cash. Bonus cash can't be negative. So it goes on your in-game cash.

This works out better ultimately because it doesn't cancel your offseason.
