I spent $20 odd million improving mine and we’re tagged to be 30 odd wins less. I just can’t do anything

Just kind of poking around, I'd say NO is still a mostly young team, especially in the areas where much or most of the production is being made. Your guys seem to be statistically stepping up across the board, which suggests to me that the Crawdads are potentially doing better than last year because (among other reasons) their development path as a whole is growing. I'll note, too, that K-rates and BABIP are way up this year. So I ponder if some of your guys are getting a nudge forward based on league settings being tweaked a bit.JimBob2232 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 04, 2021 4:24 pmI honestly dont understand my team the last coulpe seasons. I have essentially the same lineup as last year. Last year we stunk. This year we're one of the best in the league. Nothing Significant has changed on the surface...maybe a good deep dive for someone smarter than me!
Or maybe it's the sticky stuff.

@RonCo you could have a look as to why Riyadh have moved back so much if you like please? I brought better pitchers in, improved the defence and in my preseason opinion had done enough to kick on from 70 wins to near .500, but instead I’m looking at 50-55 wins
Has everyone improved so much or am I so Crap I need firing?

Well, that’s an interesting question…why is Riyad this bad?Fat Nige wrote: ↑Sun Jul 04, 2021 8:48 pm@RonCo you could have a look as to why Riyadh have moved back so much if you like please? I don’t completely know, but I can make a few general points. The first of which is that Riyadh is (counter to New Orleans) a pretty old team. It is fair to note the UMEBA is still and older league than the BBA as a whole, but Riyadh’s pitchers are the oldest in all of baseball, and it’s hitters are upper mid-pack.
I did a little pivot table math to look at the Red Crescent offense. Right now Riyadh has scored only 365 runs—by far the worst in the UMEBA.
Let’s look, for a moment, at the league’s average ratings for hitters in a plate appearance (which I get by creating a custom view in OOTP), and compare it to Riiyadh’s:
RATING | LG | RIY | Delta |
---|---|---|---|
POW | 6.21 | 4.77 | -1.44 |
AVK | 6.72 | 6.75 | 0.03 |
EYE | 5.30 | 4.93 | -0.37 |
GAP | 7.41 | 7.07 | -0.34 |
CON | 6.73 | 6.36 | -0.37 |
I can’t say if this is better or worse than last year because I don’t have last year’s data. I also can’t say if the gap itself grew—and if it grew was it because everyone else simply got better or not. But the gap is pretty huge, so if the team did bring in better players from last year then it can be argued the Crescents would be doing even worse.
I dunno.
I could go through a similar exercise with pitching, but I don’t have much more time so I won’t. I’d guess it will show a similar gap.
Not that I love overall ratings, but just doing a quick scan through the OOTP Pitching and Lineup screens for the UMEBA shows that Riyahd has a considerable amount of red/orange “35” and “40” ratings in both relative to the league as a whole. Only Cairo can be considered to be uglier per that eyeball test.
Baserunning results look pretty good, and its fielding is pretty reasonable.
The team has played 10 more road games than home games, so there could be a small adjustment upward coming based on home field advantage.
It could be that the team over-performed a little last year, and is under-performing a little this year? Again, I dunno. The effect of randomness can be moderately large at times. On the whole, though, I’d suggest that if Riyadh did get better last of season, the other teams have just gotten more better. And I tend to think relying on older players to carry load is a recipe for season-long fade.

Re: 2047, Sim #16 Chatter
Thanks for looking into it Ron. I’m not happy either with the age profile of Riyadh, but unfortunately it’s kinda what we’re stuck with. Any 45,50 + rated youngsters went in the drafts before expansion, now the incoming youngsters are all 20-35 rated. Meaning we have to rely on finding a rough diamond amongst the BBA farm dropouts which isn’t very likely or everybody’s cast off thirty somethings. It didn’t really help either last year having all the draftees aged 19. Not much time for them to develop past their 30-35 ratings.
Unfortunately until the rest of UMEBA work through all their young stars of the early 40’s drafts that are swilling around their systems I don’t think it will get any better for Cairo or Riyadh. That could be five to ten years though, I almost feel as though it would be best for the league if the two were contracted, they’re not going to be competitive for probably best part of a decade and just aren’t contributing anything to UMEBA. All their current role is just to provide stat padding wins for the rest of the league
