Thanks, me too! Although our good start is hiding the fact that we haven't played well of late. With the injuries we have and the solid play of both Marquette and LV, I think the FL playoffs are wide open. Exciting WC race as well with DM and Seattle. Both of whom will be a threat in the playoffs.mrbornac wrote:Seeing the way you are dominating the FLA, I am hoping to see you take the Blazers from Top to Bottom quickly! 8)JohnC wrote: Why do you love online baseball? Re: Official MBWBA GM Biographies Thread
Team: Washington Bobwhites (I did not come up with this name)
GM: Sean V. Marko
Other Leagues: The Global Baseball Consortium (38th season). I also run a Yahoo Fantasy Baseball league for co-workers with prize pots in excess of $1000.00
Location: Toledo, OH
Occupation: Oil Refinery Operator (Yes, I make Gas... lots of it)
Birthday: In the words of Maverick: "That's Classified"
Family: My wife of 13 years, my 12 year old son, and my 7 year old son.
Accolades: None. But a fun fact: I am licensed by the State of Ohio as a Stationary Engineer.
How would your friends describe you: Well, first I would have to have "friends"
Favorite Sports Moment (in person): Game 4 of the 2006 ALDS: Tigers defeat Yankees (I was there)
Favorite Sports Movie: Moneyball, The Rookie (really)
Favorite MLB Team: 2011 AL CENTRAL CHAMPION DETROIT TIGERS
Favorite MLB Player: Justin Verlander, Alex Avila, Curtis Granderson (still)
Favorite NFL Team: None. Don't have much use for football.
Favorite NBA Team: None
Favorite NHL Team: They still play hockey??
Favorite College: I did not go to college.
One place in the World you would like to visit: Always wanted to go to Japan to catch some NPB games
GM "Style": I dont know really. I like teams with power, lots of home runs and such. I don't really use all of the fancy Jamesian stats and formulae. With the crazy refinery schedule I keep (rotating days and nights, 12 hour shifts, mandatory overtime), I dont have all that much time to get too in depth with things, to the detriment of my teams. I am honored to be a part of this league, but I constantly wonder if I am doing it justice.
Why do you love online baseball? I love baseball, period.

I wouldn't mind Pujols signing with the Rangers. He might hit 80 home runs.LambeauLeap wrote:Pujols is cool to watch play but I could NEVER have a ((gasp)) CARDINAL as my fave player. Now if he ends up a Marlin...perhaps.

Team: Carolina Kraken
GM: Ben Teague
Other Leagues: I was in MLIB but decided to devote 100% of my OOTP time to MBWBA
Location: Charlotte, NC (via Birmingham, AL)
Occupation: Technical Management/Consulting & Writer (non-tech)
Birthday: 5/17/73
Family: none
Accolades: Well I guess to fit the theme of this board, I was drafted out of high school by the Dodgers. 53rd round. I lasted 2 months before I realized that I should be in college. Unfortunately, all of my scholly offers were gone and by the time the next academic year rolled around I was too involved in music. Like most in high school I played any position, but I was a pitcher as well. My specialty was a 4-seam curve. The first MLB scout I met was from the Pirates and he said I wasn't going to get too far as a pitcher at 5'9"...I think I could have done it just out of spite, but I ended up drafted as a third baseman. I have a bunch of business acronyms next to my name, too, but I won't bore anyone with that.
How would your friends describe you: Intelligent, funny to the point of embarrassment, straightforward
Favorite Sports Moment: Landon Donovan's 94th minute goal for the Nats against Algeria in 2010 World Cup sending the US through (and me running up and down the hallway of my building, Sid Bream's "The Slide" in '91, UAB basketball upset #1 Kentucky in 2004 (will never forget the sweet, sweet tears of Ashley Judd), UAB football beating Southern Miss (finally) in 2009
Favorite Sports Movie: For the Love of the Game
Favorite MLB Team: Braves
Favorite MLB Player: Chipper Jones (even though he's got that ridiculous "toe-tap" in his swing...if I had a son he would never watch Chipper bat without me telling him he can never, ever do that)
Favorite NFL Team: Falcons
Favorite NBA Team: none
Favorite NHL Team: none
Favorite College: UAB
One place in the World you would like to visit: China and The Balkans
GM "Style": Active - I'm always either a buyer or a seller; Most critical to me is pitching (even though I haven't been able to construct a decent staff in this league) and defense up the middle...I'll also favor OBP over anything if I'm forced to choose
Why do you love online baseball? Well, what baseball fan doesn't love numbers and stats? Even though it's frustrating I enjoy trying to dig into the data available to uncover why my team or a player is struggling. Even though this is the end of my 5th full season, I honestly feel like I'm just now getting a grasp of the deeper numbers that drive OOTP. Without that I've felt at a handicap when negotiating trades.

Were you a pitcher? I was one of those guys that pissed hitters off: my FB topped at about 88 but my 4-seam curve came in around 82...if you can get any breaking ball that close to your FB (without flattening it, if course) it's devastating; the biggest piece, though, was my dad started teaching me early to vary my grip on the FB...teach a young kid to do that and control it he'll never have to even learn how to throw the curve until high school and travel ball.LambeauLeap wrote:A pitcher! I still need to get this done. I'll get it in Tuesday morning. My move will be complete come mid-week, so I should be back in the swing of things at that point. Expect a flurry of team news

A left-handed catcher? Man, all you had to do was reach your senior year still able to walk! I forget which Braves network Joe Simpson and Tom Glavine are on, but Simpson constantly brings out the old line, "If he's left-handed and breathing..." Glavine can't stand it.LambeauLeap wrote:Ha, no...closest I got was 6th grade little league as a left-handed catcherbateague wrote:Were you a pitcher? Re: Official MBWBA GM Biographies Thread
It is really quite the place. There are quite a few interesting shows here, and the price is really very reasonable. Lots of time share. The outdoor stuff here is quite nice for those who are into that also. In fact, that's how the town grew up. People were coming here to fish and camp, and someone decided to give them some entertainment. Now, the outdoor part is largely secondary. Honestly, it is not a place that I would bring my family for vacation, but I'm glad people do since I make my living here!Al-Hoot wrote:@ Jason: never been to Branson; do you get to see shows free?
The theatre community here is very supportive of one another, and we all have reciprocal agreements with one another. So, I get into pretty much everything for free, along with my family, and that includes Silver Dollar City, which is a really nice theme park. Pretty cool.
