Once again, Thanks to @BaseClogger (Kurt) for his work on this! He does the heavy lifting on this every season.

Remember that WAR used is WAR from the end of last season. WAR calculation will change after Jan 1 league rollover in game.

Post anything we may have missed.

Richard Balgera shouldn't earn comp? I even waived him during the playoffs but nobody claimed him yet he's earning me comp??

I forgot to remove him. It's a game and not my job. Got family over and other shit going on. Just point it out and move on.

No, Balgera is eligible for comp. You didn't do anything wrong.

Trevino because he was claimed off waivers during 2064? Which doesn't seem to remove him from eligibility. Don't hint at it but not say it!

I'm just trying to guess at what Alan is getting at.

You might have gotten Balgera and Marriott confused? Marriott is the guy I non-tendered.

Trevino should not get a comp pick. He is a SP with .6 WAR. The threshold states 2.35

He made 16 starts and 18 relief appearances. This is the rule in the constitution “For purposes of Type designation, a SP is defined as a pitcher who threw twice as many starts as relief appearances in the immediately preceding season.”

I’d be supportive of making the rule harder to receive RP designation.

His WAR in 2063 was 3 in 2064 was 0.7. That is 1.85 and the cutoff for Type B is .65 making him eligible for Type B. He missed starter eligibility.

per the rules he's an RP.

My bad. Definitely a loophole that should be closed though. I think I'm moving into the get rid of comp picks crowd. We've been handling out comp picks to too many garbage players the past few years.

If we're going to keep them, the thresholds should be raised by a full WAR and all pitchers should be grouped together with the SP threshold. RPs should simply not garner comp picks unless they're crazy good.

That said, comp picks seem like too much work for something not providing the intended benefit -- to compensate a team for the loss of a player they couldn't afford, which in a salary capped league is the result of decisions made by the GM of the team. So the intended benefit is to compensate a GM for being poor at handling his salaries? I'll never understand comp picks. How we still have them is beyond me. Plus, it's far more work to handle these than to add nicknames into the game for MIL Championships, a suggestion which will be shot down for that exact reason.

I personally view comp picks as a competitive balance thing. They increase the trade value of rental players during midseason trade negotiations. Only non-playoff teams receive them. They're our version of the "competitive balance round" picks that MLB has now.

Does OOTP have the option to do qualifying offers? Seems that would make it a lot easier to enforce and perhaps prevent teams from starting a pitcher just enough to scrap the bottom of the RP threshold.

Yep. I play in leagues that use QO.

You can also make it so you can offer a player arbitration and if they reject it the team gets comp.
