So as the author of this rule and the guy who used to enforce it, no, it’s not a difficult rule.

The two-year averages are made even easier if you eliminate everyone who didn't make the threshold LAST year, as the rule reads. You’d have to do that anyway under any system.

The rule is meant to eliminate draft picks for modest one-year flukes and limit absurd Type A free agents who just had a big contract year, and also to limit “gaming” by GMs who would wait until a contract year to full time players, then take draft picks for it. (People will still do this to sign guys to “soft” extensions; however, I don’t see a way around that, but they don’t get a draft pick for it.)

The thought was also that if people were gaming this and the player had a big enough second year to allow for compensation on average, that’s probably a big enough talent to make it make sense.

Anyone who didn’t make the number in 2058 isn’t on the compensation list.

Gonzalez fell through the cracks. He was a starter in 57 and reliever in 58. I will add him.

My apologies on Fountain. I was going off the team option thread and he wasn't there for some reason. I opened OOTP 24 and saw he did have an option for 2059. So I am wrong.

That's the issue with trying get these correct. You have to look everywhere. It's a pain in the ass.

I agree. I wasn't trying to call you out. I just didn't want another debacle this winter. If it was just Gonzalez I would have kept my mouth shut. He is a cheap comp pick anyway. The very last line of eligibility saved him.
