R.I.P.- Neil Thomas

Post by recte44 » Fri Jan 05, 2024 10:15 am

It's with a heavy heart that we have now confirmed what I feared had happened- Neil Thomas @Clayman , longtime Athens GM (among other teams, but I'll remember him for his Athens passion), has passed away on New Year's Day.

I have known for quite a while that Neil had been sick, in fact terminally sick. He'd left the league several years ago and then reached out to me personally to return to his beloved Athens team as one of his last wishes. I know that the BBA made him extremely happy. Even though he sometimes got frustrated with the league and other times heated, it was fueled by passion for the game and the league.

Neil, in retirement, had a smallholding in England.

Never thought of it that way, your right though :) we try to go as self sufficient as we can, we have chickens, goats, bees, pigs, cows. The only ones we have for meat are the pigs, my daughters have all left home but one comes for the honey and wax from the bees and the milk from the goats and cows, makes cheese from the milk and sells it, we split the profits. Also horses but there stabled here, not ours. Plus I grow alot of fruit and veg which we sell, then the old lady bakes for farmers markets.
He was a man who absolutely loved OOTP. He's a Hall of Famer on the OOTP Boards (ukhotstove) having been a member of the OOTP community since 2004. He'd been involved in several leagues over the years, most notably the BBA and the PEBA. In later years he was active with a couple of dynasty threads on the OOTP Forums.

We'll miss you Neil.

PM sent from Neil's nephew to Chad on OOTP Forums:

Hi

Just thought you and your league should know my Uncle Neil passed away New Years Day, it was a Gods Send really as he'd been in alot of pain the last few weeks.

He talked of the Brewster alot, mostly the players he would give stories/life to and members he would talk to like Mike but his favourite was Vic, I know when he said Vic had passed my Uncle wasn't the same with OOTP. He would also say a guy called Randy would annoy him but he respected him, to a lesser extent you would as well but he also respected you. He would give a wry smile when he had a moan, I know he enjoyed it to be honest.

He was with my Auntie and his 4 girls when he passed, all considered he was in good spirits having watched his Dallas Cowboys win, like I say thought you should know, after all its down to my Uncle and the Brewster I'm hooked on OOTP.

Boyd.

We talked quite a bit on discord - he’d rant id listen - he was really passionate about his team and the league. I will miss you Neil, and as long as someone still speaks your name or tells a story about you, you are never truly gone. I am
Happy to hear he was surrounded by his family in his final moments 👊🏻

We came into the league around the same time during the UMEBA days and always bonded through that. We didn't always see eye to eye, but he was always so passionate about the BBA. RIP Neil.

Neil was a very good guy, and that sucks. I like to think that Neil, Vic, and Ted are somewhere in the great beyond talking about the BBA and are watching the sims, Discord, and forums.
