New PPT Reward - 1B Specialization
1B Specialization:
Improve/establishes a players ability to play 1B by taking away his ability to play other positions by spending PP's. This specialization is for players that are Outfielders and Catchers.
What it Costs:
1) A GM will spend 20 PP to use this reward, and can only use this reward on one player per season.
Who is Eligible:
1) Any Outfielder or Catcher who is 30 years of age or older.
2) This player must not have had any specialization previously in his career.
How it Works:
1) You can improve 1B Position Rating by translating points from OF or Catcher ratings.
2) This reward will only affect Outfielders/Catchers that have IF Ratings of less than 4 (on the 1-10 scale.)
3) OF-to-1B ratings will be determined by:
a) IF Range: Will be set at a rating of 4.
b) IF Error: Multiply OF Error by 0.75 (rounding down).
c) IF Arm: Multiply OF Arm by 0.75.
d) Turn DP: Will be set at a rating of 4.
4) C-to-1B ratings will be determined by:
a) IF Range: Will be set as a rating of 4.
b) IF Error: Equal to C Ability (no change).
c) IF Arm: Equal to C Arm (no change).
d) Turn DP: Will be set at a rating of 4.
5) Former OF/Catcher Ratings are set at Zero.
Example 1:
1) OF "Jim Fielder" is currently 32 years old and rated 5/11/8 (OF Range/OF Error/OF Arm).
2) GM decides to spend 20 PP to specialize him as First Baseman.
3) Jim Fielder’s new ratings are:
a) IF Range: 4
b) IF Error: 8 (11 x 0.75 = 8.25, rounded down to 8)
c) IF Arm: 6 (8 x 0.75 = 6)
d) Turn DP: 4
Example 2:
1) C “Jack Flenderson” is currently 30 years old and rated 7/8 (C Ability/C Arm).
2) GM decides to spend 20 PP to specialize him as First Baseman.
3) Jack Flenderson’s’s new ratings are:
a) IF Range: 4
b) IF Error: 7
c) IF Arm: 8
d) Turn DP: 4
Example 3:
1) OF “Ted Bundy” is currently 34 years old and rated 4/7/6 (OF Range/OF Error/OF Arm).
2) GM decides to spend 20 PP to specialize him as First Baseman.
3) Ted Bundy also has IF ratings of 6/7/6/1 (IF Range/IF Error/IF Arm/Turn DP
4 GM would not be able to process this PPT Reward as the player is already rated higher than the minimum of 4 at the IF defensive skills (on the 1-10 scale.)

Re: New PPT Reward - 1B Specialization
Yea and we should have gotten rid of that a long time ago too. Stuff like this just jacks up the player pool. That’s why good pitchers now need 12 stuff on a scale of 1 to 10. That’s dumb.

Re: New PPT Reward - 1B Specialization
I like it. It’s realistic and the potential for abuse is low since the player pool is already littered with 1B who can hit. I can’t imagine many catchers being worthy of this specialization in the current climate.

Is there really enough of those conversions happening to blame (genuinely asking)?

I mean its there if you want to use it. if you don’t then No biggie, but at least is an option for those who want it.

Re: New PPT Reward - 1B Specialization
Will the players start with 0 experience? I have a player that I am considering doing this as ratings/height will make him a ++1B but it does seem counter-productive if a 30+ year old needs to play without ratings at a position for a few seasons to be a good option?
I.e. you'd need to carry a player with 0 ratings either at 1B or OF until they played enough games (Spring Training over a few years?) to get qualified at the former.

Re: New PPT Reward - 1B Specialization
It really doesnt take long for defensive ratings. And, just because they dont have a "rating" doesnt mean they cant play the position. For instance, Cinema Jones does not have a rating for RF, but that is where he will play from day 1 of the season. I usually go more by their factors than their actual rating at a position.

Re: New PPT Reward - 1B Specialization
I'm not sure height/weight matter. Hell Jared gillstrom stole over 600 bases and had a career +97 ZR at SS and he was 6'7 280!!datom25 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 18, 2022 1:30 pmWill the players start with 0 experience? I think height does actually play a factor for 1B, even if slightly.usnspecialist wrote: ↑Fri Nov 18, 2022 3:06 pmI'm not sure height/weight matter. Re: New PPT Reward - 1B Specialization
One last check, if that's ok...
https://statspl.us/brewster/player/43342/?page=ratings
MR Calton Casson, who was originally an OF, I don't think is eligible on two grounds:
1) no current position ratings at OF, although he did use to have him - IE is Outfielder defined by having a position rating at OF spots? ie Id need to get him up to 1 in Spring Training.
2) IF arm of 6 - ie is Arm one of the IF ratings that needs to be 4 or less?
Thanks! I have another candidate too if, as I suspect, Casson is ineligible. But I think these answers could be useful to anyone considering it with an ex-OF who no longer has position ratings.

Re: New PPT Reward - 1B Specialization
A DH isnt eligible for this. (Casson has not played the OF since college; he's only played 9 innings in the field since then and none of those were in the OF.)datom25 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 6:15 amOne last check, if that's ok...

An IF Arm of 6 would stay a 6.
