for those of you who read the media guide piece i did, the section for "Shoeless Snippets" was actually originally going to be vic. In what turned out to be the last time i talked to him, i reached out and asked if he would do it and he was all for it. Right after that he got sick and obviously couldnt get to it, but I will always appreciate his willingness to help out however he could with anything going on in this league. For a guy who actually was not here a terribly long time, he left an indelible impact.

RIP Vic.

I never got the chance to speak to him, but I went through a lot of his old team news once; what started as reading one quick article for a historical reference turned into me reading about a season's worth because I got caught up in the storyline. Great work from a great writer. And from what it sounds like, an even better person.

I enjoyed following Vic's writings and, even more, my few exchanges with him. A couple of months ago, when I was re-thinking my participation here after a trade kerfuffle, Vic was one of several GMs to reach out by PM and urge me to stay. He was, in that exchange, and in everything, upbeat about the Brewster, and life in general.

He wrote:
...you’ve got to do what will make you happiest!
and:
...most of all, have fun! That's what this is supposed to be all about!

That was Vic. I only wish I'd known him in person.

This is heartbreaking.

Vic was one of the most inspiring people in this league. He was a great writer that could always get a laugh out of you with a team news or a message.

You will be missed, Vic.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this. Vic was such a fantastic league member on the whole, and I really, really enjoyed writing my way between his plot lines and then seeing where he would take them. Very tough day. My thoughts are with him and his family.

I was digging around tonight and came across Vic’s application to the league. He wrote this:

“Because I’ll be a diligent, creative and active participant in the league, especially on the writing end. What appeals to me about the Brewster Baseball Association and the PEBA (which is the only other league I’m involved with) is the opportunity to create an alternative history through frequent and detailed stories in a number of formats: press releases, newspaper stories, roundtable discussion transcripts, diaries, etc. Although I enjoy competing and try my best to field a winning team each season, the creative opportunity is as big a draw for me. I like the idea of getting in at (or near) the beginning of the UMEBA to have a chance to chronicle the early days of a franchise.”

And:

“What interests you about the BBA?: As I said earlier, I like the Brewster Association’s tradition as a writing league, and I’m eager to be in a league that takes the tradition seriously and where more than a handful of members contribute. I like the idea of creating a team, peopling it with interesting personalities and bringing the simulation to life.”

It’s this aspect of the writing leagues I’ve done with Recte that I like. And it’s why I’ll miss Vic the most.

Im just catching up now. I read this and just have a pit in my stomach. I never met the man face to face either, but it seems a common thread we all had our talks with him one on one. For me, he was so proud of his Black Sox and the joy this league brought him.

When we DO get together for some type of 75th celebration - that first night i will propose a toast to our dear friend Vic...and we shall drink and remember our good friend.

Billy Joel said it best...”Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes, and Im afraid its time for goodbye again...”

Goodbye Vic....say hello to my parents when you see them in heaven.

Your friend

Wow I can't believe it. It seems like everything happened so fast. At least he was surrounded by his loved ones. Rest in peace Vic.

This may have already been suggested, but is there a way we can honor his contributions to the league by naming an award after him? I was thinking maybe the GM Of The Year award, but I don’t know if that already has a name assigned to it in the BBA...

Great idea. Maybe we could create a Writer/Contributor of the Year award in his honor.

This is awful. My thoughts are with those of you that knew him better than I did and with his family. Going to miss his writing, one of the most skilled the league had ever had
