Passing of Vic Caleca

Post by shoeless.db » Wed Mar 03, 2021 7:34 am

Per a message from Vic’s son:

“I am so sorry to inform you my dad passed away on Sunday morning, around 3 AM. He and I were very close. When I was last with him, he talked a lot about his baseball league and how much joy it was bringing to his life. He and I bonded a lot over baseball, as one of our favorite things to do together was go to baseball games.
I miss him so so dearly, and I still have trouble believing he's gone.
I, as well as the rest of my family, would really appreciate your discretion as we need some time alone to process this devastating loss. But I saw your message and didn't want y'all to worry any more. He passed comfortably in his sleep, with some of the people he loved most, that never left his side - including his wife, my mom.”

Vic was one of our favorite people. My condolences go out to his family and they should know that Vic will be missed by all of us.

Vic was one of the most creative and dedicated GMs that has been a part of the BBA in my time here. We were lucky to have him and he will be missed.

Goodness.... I don't even know what to say. Whatever I say here probably doesn't matter much anyway...
But condolences to his family and to those of you here who were closer to Vic than I was. I enjoyed the friendly banter and back forth with Vic and our made up stories.

You'll truly be missed here my friend!

Gah, really enjoyed his good natured banter about my Kernels.

He was one of the good ones.

Vic was one of the first Brewster owners to reach out to me when I joined the league. We had fun that day chatting back and forth about our Indianapolis common acquaintances, and I can only echo what everyone else is saying: he seemed like a terrific guy.

I had a lot of private chats with Vic, as it seems did most of our GM’s, he was a very compassionate man that seemed to know exactly what needed to be said to people. I will really miss our chats, I feel a little bit of my BBA has just slipped out the door. It just won’t seem the same any more

Based on his impact on the BBA, I can only imagine how great of an impact he made on a grander scale outside of BBA. RIP

He will be greatly missed in this league, and by virtue, I'm sure by his family, friends and colleagues. A huge loss. RIP Vic.

I've come on the forums today wanting to write a TN but just can't pull myself to do it today... It just doesn't feel right.

Vic was one of the great TNs writers in this league. I put him and Ron as 1A and 1B and you can debate which is which. Vic took my "Master Plan" story line and ran with it, creating Chicago's "Blue Print" He spun my Kate storyline into his own Helga. Of course we can't forget Vinny and Benny, pig shit, and the rest. Vic started my own little fun diversion from the "baseball" side of the league with fictional storylines and (along with Ron) turned a fictional baseball league into a fictional soap opera of sorts with baseball as the plot.

Truth be told, I've been waiting for the day he returned back to release my "Undercovers with Kate" article and blame Vinny for a bad tower or pairs on Vic's illness. I had it all planned out in my head and it was going to be my welcome back article for him to run wild with on his end.

Neil said it on Discord that this is the second person to pass that he never met that he shed a tear for. I share that sentiment completely. I can't put a face on Vic, a lot like most of you here. But having spent more time here than most over the years this is just as much a family as anything. I feel like I know some of you personally despite the fact I've never met any of you in person.

Frankly, this just sucks!

RIP Vic!
