PPT Rule Update for 2045

Post by RonCo » Sat Oct 31, 2020 10:31 am

TLDR Version:

Beginning in 2045, to stay in good standing GMs will need to earn:

  • BBA: 20 PPT (at least 4 from exports, 12 from TN, and 1 from posts)
  • UMEBA:10 PPT (at least 4 from exports, 4 from TN, and 1 from posts)

-------------------------------------------------
Discussion:

In the past members of the UMEBA have suggested we should have some expectation for participation in their league. After some give and take, we’ve decided to slightly alter the requirement structure as well as create that expectation for UMEBA participation.

New items addressed include minimum expectation for forum posting as well as exports. In making this rule, we will alter the forum, posting award to provide one point for our first 25 posts, and a second for the next 25 (two points total for 50 points, same as today).

To stay in good standing GMs will need to earn:
  • BBA: 20 PPT (at least 4 from exports, 12 from TN, and 1 from posts)
  • UMEBA:10 PPT (at least 4 from exports, 4 from TN, and 1 from posts)
We considered the inclusion of a forum posting requirement to be important because, even in this world of Slack participation, forum presence is the most commonly available form of league engagement. The requirement for a minimum number of exports provides the message that exporting is the most necessary form of team management. In function, these requirement says a GM is expected to export at least 16 of our 27 sims, and post at least 25 times over the course of an in-game year (from Landis to Landis).

As previously, GMs who cannot meet requirements can be offered a bailout plan or can be replaced as determined by the Governing Board. Our goal in making these decisions will be focused on maintaining a stable, robust, and competitive environment.

Keep in mind we took some pains to check the current participation levels and make the requirements for forum posting a low threshold. The guidelines don't start until next year, but currently, zero BBA teams are likely to fall below 25 posts. Primarily the point of this is to identify owners who are AWOL, not as a gotcha.

As for the new UMEBA requirements, we thought that it would improve the overall quality of the league. Half the UMEBA has already met or is close to meeting all three requirements already, most owners have met two of the three, and every owner has met the export requirement this year. These won't take effect until next year, so most of you just need to keep doing what you've been doing; the rest might need to pick it up slightly.

Your participation levels in the UMEBA are the driving factor in determining whether you get a BBA team. As it says in the Constitution: "As BBA teams become available, the Governing Board will traditionally choose the UMEBA GM that has been most the most active participant, contributing articles and features and participating in forum discussions."

So if you're a UMEBA owner, this is a great opportunity to show that you are likely to maintain a team in the BBA.

I think this is a very good adjustment, it will allow GMs to show they are really committed to the league. I’d like to thank the GB for this improvement to the league.

Should we clarify about owners who join in mid-season after a prior GM disappears or drops out? Would it be pro-rated?

This is good to hear. I'd assumed it was solely based on tenure in UMEBA.

It's not based on tenure primarily, though we've used that to break a tie.

A GM joining mid-season would not be expected to meet the requirements in their partial season.

As lane said, they are not expected to meet the requirements and while there is no formal probation, some common sense will be applied.

As for the "line" to the BBA, there is usually some interesting discussion among the GB and tenure is one factor but (at least in my opinion) not the biggest.

When I mod the constitution, I'll try to remember to note that GMs who join in mid-season are not held to the full year totals, though it shouldn't be too hard to hit the totals other than, of course, exports.

FYI ... with the calendar turned, I have now updated the constitution (as well as our PPT Tracker) to reflect these changes.

Please note that the New GM Guide points to the old tracker in the first post.

@RonCo
Thanks a bunch for dealing with the PPT. There's really no way to express how thankful I am for @recte44, yourself, and the entire board for all the work put in creating this little sliver of my world that is endlessly fun day in and day out. Thanks, gents!

A couple of questions:
1. Are team news also counted in # posts (for example, if you did 8 team news plus 17 responses to other posts, would that be 25 or 17?)
2. What about if you do more than needed in one category but are slightly deficient in another (for example, this season I had 8 TN but only 24 posts--- just below the 25 minimum)?

this is my take on this, im sure my fellow GB members will correct me if i am wrong.

1) yes, a post is a post (even if you just say "yes" to something)
2) we created the categories to have all standards met. Much like the current rules, i imagine if you fell just short it would be considered on a case by case basis but we would need a pretty compelling reason to avoid buy out plans or removal.
