Rockville IFA snafu

Post by recte44 » Sun Jun 07, 2020 7:05 pm

Rockville had a little snafu during IFA. You see, when you have commissioner power in game, it lets you overspend your allowed amounts. Aaron temporarily forgot about this and therefore spent WAY too much.

The solution?

Christian Burgos will have his signing with Rockville voided, and the signing bonus refunded. I will then put him into the HSAS so he'll eventually get to our draft.

@aaronweiner unfortunately there is no way for me to refund the signing bonus in-game. Remind me at the end of the season and we'll figure out a way.

May I ask why Rockville has commish power turned on in the first place?

I'm the Vice Commissioner and have been for at least twenty game seasons.

I’m aware. I just fail to see what that has to do with having commish power turned on. If you don’t sim or do any of the pp changes then what’s the point? Not a deal breaker or anything. Just generally curious.

I imagine it's helpful to have someone else with the capability to sim at any time in case Matt is unable.

I have simmed in the past. That's most of the reason.

If I died tomorrow, the league wouldn't be stuck. Is that good enough reason?

(Note: I have absolute trust in Recte and Aaron.)

Upon entering my first online league, I did find it odd there was no audit trail available to see what screens were accessed utilizing the commish tools. Seems like an easy thing to do (spoken tongue in cheek as I've heard so many ignorant managers say this to IT staff) and it would put to rest many issues. But, I suppose, there would be ways around it anyway. In the end, it doesn't matter to me anyway. The BBA is all I play in, and I have zero worries about issues here.

Hmm so this would also mean the following. If I want to sign a free agent my owner can say no for various reasons like budget, future salary cap, and the weird one where he doesn’t like the structure of the contract but you two have never had to listen to your owner?

I have total trust in the leadership to not use their commish access to put their finger on the scale. I have been here since 2004, more than most of you, and have never seen a problem. I have seen it in previous leagues and that is why this is the only league I play in now.

I'm very careful; I have done the math on every extension and every free agent signing. Feel free to look back 20 years and see if you can find any anomaly. It's because I never screw up with these things that you've never heard about it before: check for negatives, check for budget, double check things. There's a reason I handle bonus cash. You're right though - that's basically true if I DID screw it up.

The IFA mistake was a honest mistake, and it won't happen again. We put sunlight on the issue not to debate my status, but to let you know that we don't cover anything up.

About the only thing weird I’ve ever seen was that wonky Seabass contract back in the day. And again this is just general procedural curiosity. Not accusing anyone of anything.

So the easy answer to this is that I’ll give up Nashville and just be the Commish.

This offseason can’t end soon enough.

I actually don't remember why the Harry Dunn thing was wonky. I remember how I got utterly destroyed on that contract by putting that huge backloaded player option on it, but I definitely don't remember what was wrong with it.

I think this is a storm about nothing, I trust all the governing board and no-one should give anything up. We are normally so good at policing ourselves, I don’t see any change in that. A mistake was made, admitted to, and sorted

Agreed. If anything funny was going on, the mistake would have been hush-hushed, Matt and Aaron would trade off winning the Landis every year, and Chicago wouldn’t have crushed Nashville like a crunchy little bug in our season series last year (sorry, Matt. The truth hurts ...).

It’s a great league run by great people. ‘Nuf said, to channel my inner Stan Lee.
