Sad News Regarding Former GM

Post by recte44 » Fri Jun 05, 2020 2:10 pm

Fellas, I got this sad news from @nerfHerder this morning:
Off Topic
Sorry to report that Ed Murphy passed away yesterday afternoon. He was battling stage 4 kidney cancer for the last year, a big part of the reason why he relinquished Des Moines. We actually worked together. He ended up retiring a few months back and moving with his wife to the Houston area to be near their son and grandkids. I last spoke to him three weeks ago and he was upbeat, but tired. Was set to call him sometime this week to let him know that they promoted me to his vacated position and get some pointers. Just a shame. Only 57.
Many of us have been in the league with Ed for years and years. Some of us even met him in person. I asked Mike for an address that if anyone wanted to send condolences, etc and Mike provided me with this address:

Carol Murphy
19114 Northfork Bend Lane
Tomball, TX 77377

Life is short, my friends. Savor every moment for it could all be gone. My thoughts and prayers are with the Murphy family and I'm sure you will all join me in mourning the loss of a long time competitor and friend.

Wow. That is a terrible shame - 57 is way too young. I had a handful of dealings with Ed, and he was always supportive and kind. Very sorry to hear this.

He sounds like he left quite an impression on this league. At least he was with his family and surrounded by his loved ones. Cancer sucks. Lost my dad to it also. Perhaps we can rename the GM of the year award in honor of Ed to continue his legacy? The Ed Murphy GM of the year award?

Very sad. Only knew Ed through the BBA but he was always a nice and decent guy. Condolences to those of you who knew him better and in real life.

Renaming the award sounds like a great idea

Really sorry to hear this, I didn’t have a lot of dealings with Ed, but he was always there. And I enjoy BBA GM’s being there and hate them not being there. RIP Ed

A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive as long as we remember them.

Through us, they live on.

Never forget Ed Murphy.

My condolences to his friends and family.

Sad it is...we had this happen in the HBL where a former member passed suddenly in his sleep. Sometimes we forget that the people we mingle with on the internet are real until things like this remind you of it.

Well said, James. He certainly will live on in the hearts of family and friends, and here in the BBA with all of us.

Man, this is sad. The few times I dealt with him, he was really nice. I know he helped me once with a file I was having trouble with. Just seemed like a good dude. I'm behind renaming the GM award if that is something that's gets movement.

Are there plans to send something from the whole league?
