Announcement: Wilson Andrade and Storyline Retirements
Governing Board Notice on Wilson Andrade
As has been discussed on the forums, we’ve had a situation where last draft’s top pick, Wilson Andrade, retired at age 18. As a result, the board has been discussing this topic within BBA terms as well as working with OOTP Developments to better understand the feature (this issue has hit us fairly often, making us suspect the code). These conversations have led us to two opinions:
1) The feature is not well implemented for our purposes.
2) Given that the feature is poorly designed for our purposes, that the issue should be addressed with some action from the board.
Therefore, following actions will be taken:
1) Wilson Andrade will be un-retired and returned to Charm City. It would be great if Brandon could write a TN storyline around this action to make it fit into our fictional worldview, but it is not required.
2) To avoid the situation happening in the future (and if possible), the storylines in question will be removed from our storyline database upon our move to v20.
3) Seattle and Vancouver, who were affected by these storyline/retirement features in the past, will be awarded supplemental draft picks after the third round in this next summer’s draft.
We would also like the league to know that we are actively engaged with OOTP Dev to make long-term fixes in the storyline database that will allow us to avoid needing to customize our storyline database in the future. We, therefore, hope and suspect our pain will result in long-term improvements in the game itself.

worth noting that (to my knowledge) slouck never came to us asking for any action to be taken on this, so before anyone complains in that area.

This fantastic news. Thanks to everyone involved for putting the necessary attention into this issue. I’m happy that the dev is involved and we may have a small part in making some long lasting impact on the game in regards to the storylines.

Re: Announcement: Wilson Andrade and Storyline Retirements
there were a few alternatives we were kicking around but it was pretty clear from the beginning that something had to be done and we were all in agreement on that.crobillard wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 10:48 amThis fantastic news. Thanks to the GB on this. It's appreciated. Also, good to give the other teams from before some compensation for it.

Re: Announcement: Wilson Andrade and Storyline Retirements
100% agree with this...
I know they try to make things as realistic as possible. But things don't have to be too real.
Though, these things happen in real life. It certainly looked like Kyler Murray was planning on playing baseball before he changed his mind to play football after he was drafted by Oakland.
I guess Oakland regrets allowing to play his senior year after giving him an almost $5 MIllion signing bonus. I wonder if he has to pay that back?

Re: Announcement: Wilson Andrade and Storyline Retirements
I believe he did pay most of that money back. And the big difference here is that the A's knew the risk they were taking, whereas here it's impossible to know what draftees are at risk to defect.Spiccoli wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 11:27 am100% agree with this...

Re: Announcement: Wilson Andrade and Storyline Retirements
Yes, there was a risk. But I believe prior to the draft, it was almost 100% certain he was playing baseball as a Pro. He was "Too Small", not very experienced and better at baseball.... blah, blah, blah....Lane wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 11:29 amI believe he did pay most of that money back. But his outstanding season last year, combined with Baker Mayfield playing well, gave NFL GM's confidence that a QB doesn't need to be 6'0" minimum. There's rumors though that Murray is around 5'-9". It's going to be fun to see if he pans out... if not, I supposed the A's will be still waiting?

I'll try to think of something. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking something about taking him to People's Court or something could be a fun angle.

I'll try. That suggest to me you already have a good angle for this you want to write up.

Re: Announcement: Wilson Andrade and Storyline Retirements
Clearly Mr. Andrade had envisioned a career of breeding cocks for cock fighting events in secret locations that you can't know about. Unfortunately, his cocks were too small to compete and so he came back to baseball with his tail between his legs...

Re: Announcement: Wilson Andrade and Storyline Retirements
So how far back does the statute of limitations go? I had a big time reliever prospect retire on me to play "professional golf". Ramon Suarez was a 12/7/7/ closer prospect when I had him, my #7 at the time. See thread here:

Re: Announcement: Wilson Andrade and Storyline Retirements
I think your boy is probably right in it. I think the VAN one was a ways back if it's for the guy Brett mentioned. If not, not sure who. The Seattle one was definitely within the last 5 seasons.jiminyhopkins wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 1:36 pmSo how far back does the statute of limitations go?
