In my own defense, most video games involve some level of strategy. The video games I mostly play are:

FM2018 (takes more strategy than this game)
OOTP
FBCB2010

These are all sports simulation types of video games that require quite a bit of strategy...And, I rarely eat chips. Of course, the stereotyping is natural in a disagreement.

There are 30 GM's in this league, and all our interests in this league should be considered IMO.

My internal image of what I see when I hear the term "video game" isn't meant as stereotyping of anyone, though I see how you'd take it that way. If I break down my own semantics ... there would be board games, computer games, and video games (wherein "computer games" are basically board games converted to play on the computer). OOTP would fit in the realm of "computer games." Racing simulations, like Ted discussed, and that I've participated in a bunch, would fit in "video games."

But that's just what goes through my head. None of it matters except that it might help us chat.

I think Matt does a brilliant job of doing his best to accommodate the interests of 30+ GMs, and that's why the BBA is what it is. At issue is where GM interest are completely incompatible, of course. At these (actually relatively few) junctions, the league makes its decision and then it's somewhat up to the GMs involved to agree to accept it, or decide that the issue is so egregious and so counter to their idea of fun that they can't stay.

Regardless, I think the important thing to note in this specific Andrade issue (speaking for the board in a way I think I can), the primary factors in this decision were that the feature as currently implemented was deemed to be so broken that it hurts the league--but that if the idea was implemented better, we would have left it stand. This is because the concept this code is emulating is a real concept, and happens in a real baseball world.

This is important to recognize because when OOTP fixes it, and we turn it back on, folks will understand the reasoning for the decision process we've gone through. It's no fun to get bitched at multiple times for the same issue.

I'm late to this, but I think this is the right call. And it's a fun opportunity for me to revisit this, which I wrote after Jin-quo Long retired. That really pissed me off.
