Rule 5 Reminder
It's that time again!
Make sure guys you don't want exposed to the draft are on your 40-man roster for next sim!

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
Noticed a lot of good players are eligible in the Rule 5 pool. Remind me again, as long as GMs protect them between last sim and next sim, they can't be drafted...therefore, we kind of need to dance around those players in setting up our draft lists?

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
I just add the guys I want, good, obviously going to be protected ones included. Odds are they get protected, but unless you have 40 some players on your draft list there's really no need to exclude them.

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
I suppose the issue with my above post is that a team that does disregard the obviously going to be protected guys is that the 'actual' Rule 5 guys will be higher on their list than yours so, as with everything in the BBA, you've gotta be intentional about how you set this up.

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
Would this matter? I would think that when it's your turn it drafts whoever is the top available player from your list, regardless of their position within the list. So the relative position of guys on draft lists from team to team is irrelevant.Rubaboo wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 11:58 amI suppose the issue with my above post is that a team that does disregard the obviously going to be protected guys is that the 'actual' Rule 5 guys will be higher on their list than yours so, as with everything in the BBA, you've gotta be intentional about how you set this up.

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
I guess the exception would be guys that were recently signed, which you shouldn't put on your list because I assume they'd be transferred back to the signing team. Otherwise, I don't see any harm in putting everyone on the list, in case someone just misses putting someone on.

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
There's the question of whether you're sharky enough to be willing to poach players you know are on the list only due to opposing GM error...which then leads to the question of what kind of error you think the guy has made...which then...
Rule 5 is always a pain for online leagues unless you're willing to burn a complete sim to get it "right."

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
I usually try to update my 40 man roster before the sim prior to the draft. I failed this time.

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
In my opinion having a hard stop the sim before the draft works best. I have to put 10 guys on my list hoping to get one guy. The current draft pool has no value for a drafting strategy because it’s not a legit list. Obviously you can’t stop recent signings from appearing.

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
I’ve read Rectes post in the announcements but want some clarity. Let’s say I make a list of 7 guys for rule 5. Do I need to have 7 spots available on my 40-man roster first? Or if I draft all 7 can I waive players on my current 40-man to make room?
I haven’t paid much attention to the rule 5 in recent years but this year is a little different

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
You can make a draft list up to 200 players long. It will select as many players as you have spots for and then stop drafting. So if you want 7 guys, you need to clear 7 spots. If your list is 7 deep and you only expect/want to get one or two, just leave 1-2 spots open.7teen wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 4:11 pmI’ve read Rectes post in the announcements but want some clarity. Re: Rule 5 Reminder
That’s what I thought.
Had to re-arrange some things. Odd situation here in Portland when you look at a guy like “I may need him so I better protect him” and then you realize “wait, this guy sucks. Just because Portland needs him doesn’t mean anyone else does”
