Two wins needed for the Riyadh record

Aug 18 v Manama W 4-1
Aug 19 v Jerusalem W 2-1
Aug 20 v Jerusalem W 2-0

Aug 21 v Jerusalem L 4-9
Aug 23 @ Beirut W 4-3
Aug 24 @ Beirut W 5-1

Five wins in a week is always a great week, in fact it’s the second best Riyadh week in 2049, even Beirut with their evil sign over us couldn’t ruin the week. Kevin Morales starts the week picking up a win and finished it picking up his 15th win, 5 more than any other Red Crescent starter in history (Sean Gardner’s 12 wins were split between the bullpen & the rotation). It didn’t really leave me any choice and we have agreed an extension in principle with Kevin on an extension. It’s going to be a 2-year guaranteed deal, we didn’t really want to give him two years as he’s going to be 38-yrs-old by the time the next season starts but Kevin was adamant that he wasn’t accepting any kind of team or vesting option, refusing any offer including a second year option.

We’re on to 69 wins now, just one shy of the Red Crescents highest tally set in 2046. Riyadh are now virtually guaranteed to post the highest win tally ever as we have 32 games left to get those two record breaking wins. We must be looking higher though, not only are we looking likely to record our first ever .500 season, we are also currently on course to reach around 85 or 86 wins. The crowd is still with us, all our top 5 crowds at Peoples Palace have been set this season and our revenue (currently $63.5 million) is the highest ever. We sold around 25% more season tickets this year than in 2048 but our average crowd is over 50% up on the same year, with the total through the gate in 2049 now standing at almost 1.8 million.

Masaki Sato is looking more as more as though he’ll post a career year; in 2046 he hit 47 homers and 122 RBI, this year he’s currently on course for 45 homers and 112 RBI. A bit more effort and maybe he might well be the hottest property in free agency, perhaps even securing a move back to the BBA. Rule 5 pick, Manchu Li, from Jerusalem is developing nicely; he may only have had 140 PA so far in his rookie UMEBA season, but he’s hit his first two homers and his batting average is currently .246. With his well above average defence all across the outfield he is all but assured a 4th OF slot in 2050 and might well grab a starting role by the end of 2050. Ricardo Quadrado has finally snapped his eight game without a win streak by picking up the win in Riyadh’s 2-1 win over the Hebrew Hammers. Ricardo moves on to nine wins in 2049 and 33 overall for the Red Crescents, by far the all-time win leader. Meanwhile Constantino Teixeira in his debut season with Riyadh has had 31 save opportunities in 50 outings and has converted 28 of them. This gives him a commanding lead in both the single-season and all-time saves leaderboard for the team.
